The recent increase in central eastern China summer rainfall and its possible mechanism

open access: yesTellus: Series A, Dynamic Meteorology and Oceanography, 2021
This study investigated interdecadal variations in summer rainfall in central eastern China before and after the mid-1990s. The mean difference in rainfall between the two epochs (average rainfall in the 1981–1995 period: 5.0 mm day−1; average rainfall ...

Decadal oscillation of autumn precipitation in Central Vietnam modulated by the East Pacific–North Pacific (EP–NP) teleconnection

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2015
Autumn precipitation over Central Vietnam is associated with an increase in the occurrence of tropical cyclones that lead to frequent flooding and pose a significant threat to lives and property.

Tropical Pacific and North Atlantic Sea Surface Temperature Patterns Modulate Mississippi Basin Hydroclimate Extremes Over the Last Millennium

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Mississippi River basin floods impart large socioeconomic impacts over the central United States. Improving flood predictability depends on our understanding of the dynamical controls on Mississippi basin hydroclimate. However, short instrumental records

The Frequency of Extreme Cold Events in North China and Their Relationship with Sea Surface Temperature Anomalies

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
This study investigated the interdecadal characteristics of the frequency of the winter single station extreme cold events (SSECEs) in North China and their relationship with sea surface temperature (SST). The results showed the following: (a) The SSECEs

Seasonal teleconnections between SPI-6 and Ocean–Atmosphere variability for drought prediction in Korea

open access: yesKSCE Journal of Civil Engineering
We examined seasonal teleconnections between the six-month Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI-6) over Korea and large-scale ocean–atmosphere variability for 1991–2020, in order to identify climate indices useful for mid- to long-term drought ...

Central Pacific El Niño-driven Pacific–Atlantic teleconnections are an important source of North Atlantic Oscillation predictability

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
The wintertime North Atlantic Oscillation is a major mode of variability affecting climate across the Northern Hemisphere, yet its seasonal prediction skill over the North Atlantic remains lower than that over the Pacific.

Abundance of non-conservative microplastics in the upper ocean from 1957 to 2066

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The spatio-temporal distributions of these plastics are not fully characterized. Here the authors examined the sources, sinks and pathways and projected microplastic concentrations for 2066 and found that most plastics accumulate in the North Pacific ...

Partial depletion of plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 decreases subcutaneous fat cell hypertrophy and liver cholesterol in high‐fat‐fed female mice

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Obesity raises blood levels of PAI‐1, a protein linked to metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease in people with obesity. In female mice fed a high‐fat diet, partially lowering PAI‐1 led to smaller subcutaneous fat cells and lower liver cholesterol, without changing body weight or insulin sensitivity.

The role of the North Pacific meridional mode on improved predictability of central European summer rainfall

open access: yesEnvironmental Research: Climate
Since the beginning of the 21st century, Central Europe (CE) has experienced a series of dry summers with substantial socioeconomic and environmental impacts.
