Sarmatian (Late Middle Miocene) gastropod assemblages of the Central Paratethys

Facies, 2002
A rather diverse gastropod fauna from Sarmatian deposits of the Austrian/Hungarian Eisenstadt-Sopron Basin was studied. The fauna derives from two layers of clay and silt within a siliciclastic section at St. Margarethen in Burgenland (Austria). These layers are interpreted as littoral mudflats which formed during the Sarmatian (Late Middle Miocene ...

The age of the Sarmatian–Pannonian transition in the Transylvanian Basin (Central Paratethys)

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 2010
A marked paleoenvironmental change took place at the beginning of the late Miocene in the Central Paratethys, with dominantly marine Sarmatian successions grading rapidly into mainly brackish Pannonian deposits. A long and excellently exposed section comprising the Sarmatian-Pannonian transition has been investigated at Oarba de Mure?

Paleoenvironmental evolution of Central Paratethys Sea and Lake Pannon during the Cenozoic

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 2020
Abstract Deep wells penetrated Cenozoic sedimentary record of two different basins: 1) Oligocene retro-arc basin which is buried under the 2) Miocene back-arc Danube Basin. This study is focused on biotic and abiotic proxies discussed in terms of existing biostratigraphical, paleoenvironmental and sedimentological data. Biotic proxies are represented

Cretaceous evolution of the Central Asian Proto-Paratethys Sea

2020
The timing and mechanisms of the Cretaceous sea incursions into Central Asia are still poorly constrained. We provide a new chronostratigraphic framework based on biostratigraphy and magnetostratigraphy together with detailed paleoenvironmental analyses of Cretaceous records of the proto-Paratethys Sea fluctuations in the Tajik and Tarim basins.

Miocene Carbonate Platforms in the Polish Carpathians (Central Paratethys). Foraminiferal record

Géologie Méditerranéenne, 1994
The Neogene in Central Paratethys was the period when flysch deposition was replaced by that of molasse in both the Carpathian foldbelt and its foredeep. The sedimentation processes were coeval, closely relevant with tectonic phases of the Carpathian orogen evo¬ lution.

Lower miocene sediments of the Maikop group in the Central Eastern Paratethys

Lithology and Mineral Resources, 2006
The composite section of upper Maikop sediments compiled for the central part of the Eastern Paratethys is presented. The section (more than 1000 m) comprises the Karadzhalgan, Sakaraulian, and Kotsakhurian regional stages. The lower boundary of the Miocene drawn at the base of the Karadzhalgan regional stage is unambiguous only in the southern part of

Miocene vegetation and climate dynamics in Eastern and Central Paratethys (Southeastern Europe)

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 2011
Abstract From the Cretaceous to modern time the earth's climate system has changed repeatedly from a greenhouse to an icehouse. The Miocene appeared as the last warm episode in earth history, prior to the establishment of large Northern Hemisphere ice sheets.

Provenance of the Miocene Slovenj Gradec Basin sedimentary fill, Western Central Paratethys

Sedimentary Geology, 2018
Abstract The Slovenj Gradec Basin represents one of the marginal western basins of the Neogene Pannonian Basin system. Its sedimentary succession is investigated by combination of field, petrographic and geochemical methods. The succession is at least 540 m thick and characterised by frequent alternation of conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone and ...

A Primitive Seal (Mammalia: Phocidae) from Early Middle Miocene of Central Paratethys

2002
A well-preserved skull from the early middle Miocene (approximately 15 Ma) at Devinska Nova Ves (formerly Neudorf an der March), Slovakia, herein named Devinophoca claytoni, new genus and new species, is morphologically the closest common ancestor of all true seals. It shows a mixture of subfamilial characters.
