Beyond Core‐Periphery: A Multidimensional Typology of Brazilian Regional Inventive Capacity

open access: yesGrowth and Change, Volume 57, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The geography of invention in Brazil is characterized by a profound and multi‐polarised structure that extends beyond a simple core‐periphery dichotomy. This paper demonstrates this complexity through a multidimensional analysis of inventive capacity (2000–2023), operationalised along four axes—‘how much’, ‘who’, ‘how’, and ‘what’ is invented ...

Unpacking Endogeneity: Growth, Discontent and Cohesion Policy in the EU Regions

open access: yesGrowth and Change, Volume 57, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper explores the complex interplay between regional economic growth, political discontent, and policy responsiveness within EU regions, focusing on increasing inequalities in the context of the EU's ongoing processes of deepening and widening integration. Drawing on panel data for the EU28 at the regional level (NUTS2) from 2010 to 2018,

Geospatial Analysis of Population Exposure to Flooding in the Sudd Region, South Sudan

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 19, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The Sudd wetland in South Sudan extends over 90,000 km2. Large‐scale flood events in recent years (2019–2022) are said to have led to the displacement of an estimated 1.8 million people in total. However, these estimates are approximate and to date there has not been a systematic analysis of population exposure to flooding in the Sudd region ...

Extreme‐weather risk and the cross‐section of stock returns

open access: yesJournal of Risk and Insurance, Volume 93, Issue 1, Page 163-198, March 2026.
Abstract We document an extreme‐weather risk premium in the cross‐section of stock returns. Between 1995 and 2019, stocks of domestic U.S. firms with the most negative sensitivity to aggregate storm losses earned an annual excess‐return spread of more than 6 percentage points relative to those with the most positive sensitivity, a difference not ...

Larvicidal Activity of Naringenin: Betaine Cocrystals Against Aedes Aegypti

open access: yesCrystal Research and Technology, Volume 61, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study demonstrates that naringenin: betaine cocrystals significantly enhance larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti compared to physical mixtures or pure compounds. Improved dissolution properties contributed to higher mortality rates, supporting the use of cocrystallization as a promising green technology for vector management.
