The reflective solar tower as an option for high temperature central receivers

Le Journal de Physique IV, 1999
The optics of the tower reflector central plant is analyzed and compared with the classical tower-top central plant for receivers working at high temperatures (above 1100K). The tower reflector seems to be superior for large plants, while for the small plants the tower top system has better performance from the optical point of view.

Multi-aiming strategy design for quadruple prism shaped central receiver in solar power tower system

IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica, 2017
For solar power tower technology, the improvement of interception efficiency of heliostat field and the extension of central receiver U+02BC s life time are two technical difficulties. To the receiver, higher interception efficiency means more thermal shocks and stronger stresses of high temperatures mainly contribute to the reduction of receiver’s ...

Modeling and simulation of 1MWe solar tower plant’s solar flux distribution on the central cavity receiver

Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory, 2012
Abstract The solar flux distribution rule inside a central cavity receiver is of great significance to the safe operation of solar tower power plants. In this paper, a heliostat field model was fully developed to simulate the solar flux distribution on the inner surfaces of a cavity receiver of a solar tower power plant by means of the Monte-Carlo ...

Path planning of a 3-UPU wrist manipulator for sun tracking in central receiver tower systems

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2018
Abstract Heliostats capable of tracking the sun as it moves across the sky and focusing the incident solar energy on to a central receiver tower requires a two degree-of-freedom (DOF) mechanism which can orient the mirror in the desired manner. Existing two-DOF mechanism, such as the Azimuth-Elevation (Az-EL) and the Target-Aligned (T-A), have two ...

Conceptional Design of Solar Power Plant with Central Receiver Tower Based on Improved Heliostats

1985
For technical and economical evaluations of solar power plant, the comparisons from technical points and electricity cost are presented on the solar plant with the heliostats based on new material and configurations because the collector system consisted of many heliostats, generally, occupies more than 50 % of total construction cost of the solar ...

Design, embodied energy analysis and GHG emissions of solar central receiver power tower (CRPT) for a 5kW system

2013 International Conference on Green Computing, Communication and Conservation of Energy (ICGCE), 2013
The world demand for energy is emergent and conventional energy sources like coal and petroleum are diminishing, and renewable energy (RE) resources contribute a major role in the future. The most part of the world is blessed with renewable resources particularly solar.

Study of the Effect of Using Different Solar Tracking Time-Steps on the Central Tower Receiver Power Plant

2018 IEEE Green Technologies Conference (GreenTech), 2018
In central receiver solar power plant, heliostat tracking accuracy affects the optical efficiency and the amount of energy received at the target. In the present article, an analysis of the effect of using different solar tracking time-steps on the energy consumption and power losses of a central receiver system.

Electric power regulation and modeling of a central tower receiver power plant based on artificial neural network technique

Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy, 2018
This paper addresses an intelligent control scheme using the artificial neural network (ANN) technique for modeling and simulating a central tower receiver (CTR) plant with thermal energy storage (TES). The multilayer perceptron neural network (MLPNN) was implemented with two input parameters, one output parameter, and one hidden layer.

Evaluation of Sodium and Steam System Design for the Solar Power Plant with Central Receiver Tower

1985
An evaluation between the sodium and steam system for solar power plan with central receiver tower is reported in order to increase a thermal power efficiency and to decrease a construction cost. These system designs involve three kinds of design output temperature of sodium loop in receiver including the sodium safety devices and the steam-water ...
