Self‐Assembling Copolymers Encapsulating Single Endothelial Cells Induce Endogenous ECM Deposition and Vascular Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the first demonstration of stable sub‐50‐micron single‐cell GPM vesicles fabricated through the intrinsic self‐assembly of an amphiphilic copolymer. Hierarchical assembly of cell containing GPM vesicles into microspheres enable tunable, sustained cell delivery with immune protection.

Whose line is it anyway? Management of central venous catheters in children

open access: yes, 2005
Paediatric cancer therapy for children and young people is highly complex. It involves chemotherapy regimens, multiple blood sampling and supportive care measures, all of which require reliable, safe and acceptable venous access to manage the child ...

Effect of statins on venous thromboembolic events: a meta-analysis of published and unpublished evidence from randomised controlled trials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background - It has been suggested that statins substantially reduce the risk of venous thromboembolic events. We sought to test this hypothesis by performing a meta-analysis of both published and unpublished results from randomised trials of statins.

Charge‐Reversed Lipid Nanoparticles Enable Encapsulation of Pt2L4 Nanocages for In vivo Anti‐Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Charge‐reversed lipid nanoparticles (revLNPs) enable efficient encapsulation and delivery of cationic Pt2L4 nanocages. Encapsulation preserves potent anticancer activity while improving circulation, reducing vascular leakage, and promoting favorable biodistribution in vivo.

Safety and effectiveness of central venous catheters usage in newborns intensive care unit

open access: yesZaporožskij Medicinskij Žurnal, 2016
To date, ensuring long-term venous access in newborns is an actual problem of intensive therapy. Central venous catheters, which implantable peripherally (PICC-line), are widely used as a medium-term vascular access in newborns in the department of ...

Leveraging Mechanical Resonances for the Selection of Promising Materials in Complex Phase Spaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A central challenge in materials science is the design of new functional materials with enhanced performance for targeted applications. This paper demonstrates that “listening” to materials through measuring their mechanical resonances is a rich, and largely untapped, platform for the rapid identification of promising novel compounds and a powerful ...

Bloodstream infection and occlusion of central venous catheters in children

open access: yes, 2018
One in ten children with a central venous catheter (CVC) develops a central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI),1 which is a life-threatening complication and harmful distraction from time-sensitive treatment. However, across CVC types (figure)
