Spurious central venous pressure [PDF]
SummaryA patient is described in whom two different sites of cannulation of central veins produced markedly different pressures with potentially dangerous consequences. Falsely elevated pressures recorded from a catheter inserted via the subclavian vein were related to the patency in the arm of an arteriovenous shunt.

Targeting RAGE with Nanobodies for Molecular Imaging of Cancers and Alzheimer's Disease
RAGE‐specific nanobodies were isolated via phage display and characterized by ELISA, cell ELISA, and SPR. In vivo imaging in renal carcinoma and Alzheimer's disease mouse models demonstrated that NbF8, the highest‐affinity clone, selectively targeted RAGE‐overexpressing tumors and brain tissues, highlighting its potential as a molecular imaging agent ...

Bedside Assessment of Left Ventricular Function in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit [PDF]
The measurement of the central venous pressure is a widely used technique for gaining information concerning the relationship of the blood volume as it relates to cardiac function. This concept has been widely popularized, and the central venous pressure

LIN28B Promotes Cancer Cell Dissemination and Angiogenesis
Children diagnosed with high‐risk neuroblastoma have a 5‐year event‐free survival rate of less than 50% and poor outcomes after recurrence. Deregulation of the LIN28B oncogene can be addressed in these patients. Upregulation of LIN28B is shown to support the metastatic cascade.

The effects of repetitive electric cardiac stimulation in dogs with normal hearts, complete heart block and experimental cardiac arrest [PDF]
Direct cardiac stimulation was conducted in the open chest. In normal animals, auricular stimulation at frequencies faster than the spontaneous rate caused little change in vascular pressures or cardiac output.

The glomerular filtration barrier (GFB) is the first step of blood filtration by the kidneys. The concerning increase of kidney diseases makes the development of new models essential. In this context, microphysiological glomerular filtration barriers focus on closely reproducing the physiological architecture of the in vivo GFB: podocytes, glomerular ...

Dehydration accelerates reductions in cerebral blood flow during prolonged exercise in the heat without compromising brain metabolism [PDF]
Dehydration hastens the decline in cerebral blood flow (CBF) during incremental exercise, while the cerebral metabolic rate for oxygen (CMRO2) is preserved.

W‐Based Thin Film Metallic Glasses Doped with Ni, Zr, and B for Industrial Applications
This work is the first to deal with a comprehensive comparison of two metallic glass systems, W–Zr–B and W–Ni–B, in terms of their suitability for specific industrial applications. Their mechanical and tribological properties are compared and discussed in combination with structural homogeneity on different types of technically relevant substrates and ...
