Relationship between gait kinematics and walking energy expenditure during pregnancy in South African women

open access: yesBMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation, 2018
Background Various musculoskeletal changes occurring during pregnancy may lead to the change in gait and contribute to the increase in walking energy expenditure.

Investigating Long-Term Behaviour of X-ray Binaries Using Archival Data

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2015
Long term modulations have been detected in a wide variety of both low and high-mass X-ray binaries. The All Sky Monitor on board the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer provides the most extensive (~15 years) and sensitive X-ray archive for studying such ...

Probing evaporating black holes with modular flow in SYK

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We study the effect of modular flow on correlation functions of fermions in the Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model coupled weakly to a bath, which we take to be another SYK model.

Complexity and operator growth in holographic 6d SCFTs

open access: yesNuclear Physics B
We study Krylov (spread) complexity in strongly coupled six–dimensional N=(1,0) superconformal field theories with holographic duals in massive type IIA supergravity.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Supersymmetric AdS solitons, Coulomb branch flows and twisted compactifications

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
This work, which accompanies [1], is about constructing smooth solutions in type II and eleven dimensional supergravity which describe supersymmetry preserving RG flows from four-dimensional SCFTs in the UV to three-dimensional SQFTs in the IR, through ...

Determination of the Centre of Gravity of Electric Vehicles Using a Static Axle-Load Method

open access: yesFuture Transportation
Accurate determination of a vehicle’s centre of gravity (CoG) is fundamental to driving dynamics, safety, and engineering design. However, existing static CoG estimation methods often neglect tyre deflection and detailed wheel geometry, which can ...

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Misfire Detection Based on Generalized Force Identification at the Engine Centre of Gravity

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Misfiring creates a unique pattern attributed to a particular cylinder. When a misfire occurs, the balance of the engine is destroyed, and the generalized force at the centre of gravity (C.G.) of the engine is changed.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.
