Compact diffusers for centrifugal compressors

16th Joint Propulsion Conference, 1980
The smaller centrifugal compressor diameter of many advanced turbofan engines renders unattractive the use of conventional conical or channel diffusing systems to deliver low Mach number, low swirl flow to the combustor. A method has been developed for designing a set of low-diameter, radially-emanating, controlledcontour passage diffusers.

The Development of Centrifugal Compressor Impeller

Volume 7: Education; Industrial and Cogeneration; Marine; Oil and Gas Applications, 2008
Impeller is one of the key components of industrial centrifugal compressors and turbochargers. Aerodynamic and structure designs of the impeller are critical to the success of the whole compressor stages. The requirements for efficiency and operating range of industrial centrifugal compressors and turbochargers have been increased dramatically compared

Bifurcation analysis of a centrifugal compressor

2011 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 2011
This paper presents the local bifurcation analysis of the dynamic behavior for a centrifugal compressor. It is known that the surge phenomenon in compressor dynamics might occur at high pressure rise operation. Under such an operation, slight variation of the driving torque and/or the throttle opening might sharply reduce the compressor efficiency and ...

Centrifugal compressor design

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1998
Centrifugal compressors are used in a wide range of applications in which performance and mechanical integrity are invariably among the paramount design objectives. There is therefore continuing interest in the development of a sound understanding of the relevant physical phenomena and in the systematic application of the knowledge base that is the ...

A Centrifugal Compressor Seal

A S L E Transactions, 1977
A new impeller-to-sump seal was developed for a line of hermetically sealed centrifugal compressor units. Tests, using an actual compressor unit, were made to simulate steady operating conditions. Both new seal configurations and the original seal were tested. A new seal configuration resulted in a 25:1 reduction in refrigerant leakage.

Silencer for a centrifugal compressor

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1991
A silencer device is installed into the discharge pipe of a centrifugal compressor by first installing a channel shaped frame in the discharge pipe and then sliding the silencer device into the frame to be contained for operational use. The orientation and placement of the frame and its contained silencer device is parallel with the direction of flow ...

Sound generation in centrifugal compressors

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2006
Abstract An experimental study is described to explore the dominant sound generation mechanisms of the spectral components governing the overall noise level of centrifugal compressors. At the design speed with supersonic flow conditions in the rotor blade channels, blade tone noise and buzz-saw noise are the main contributors.
