Which type of democracy performs best? [PDF]
Which type of democracy performs best? While some scholars argue that an electoral system with proportional representation combined with a decentralized system works best, and that the type of electoral system is crucial (Lijphart 1999), others state ...

Development of layered models for geotechnical centrifuge tests [PDF]
Centrifuge modelling is an established technique for investigating the ground response to complex and non-standard geotechnical events. These models are usually made from re-formed soil, allowing for comparisons with naturally occurring soil deposits. Clay models are formed by mixing clay powder and water into a slurry.

Amyloidogenic Peptide Fragments Designed From Bacterial Collagen‐like Proteins Form Hydrogel
This study identified amyloidogenic sequence motifs in bacterial collagen‐like proteins and exploited these to design peptides that self‐assemble into β‐sheet fibers and form hydrogels. One hydrogel supported healthy fibroblast growth, showing promise for biocompatible materials. Our work demonstrates that bacterial sequences can be harnessed to create

Integrated approach for prediction of centrifugal fertilizer spread patterns [PDF]
The present paper proposes a numerical approach for prediction of behavior of those fertilizers spreaders based on centrifugal disc functioning. In particular results from finite element multi-body simulations provided by commercial software are used in ...

Is very high energy emission from the BL Lac 1ES 0806+524 centrifugally driven?
We investigate the role of centrifugal acceleration of electrons in producing the very high energy (VHE) radiation from the BL Lac object 1ES 0806+524, recently detected by VERITAS.

Ultrasmall Platinum Nanoparticles for Radiation‐Enhanced Cancer Therapy
This work proposes a nanomedicine‐based strategy to enhance X‐ray radiotherapy for cancer treatment. Ultrasmall Pt‐NPs exhibit catalase‐like activity that may contribute to modulation of the tumor microenvironment and amplify interactions between radiation and biological matter, leading to increased DNA damage.

Centrifugal model tests on vertical bearing characteristics of undercompacted slope piles
The existing theories and experience of pile foundation are based on the flat slopes, and the stress characteristics of undercompacted slope piles are quite different from those of flat slope piles.
