Long-lasting effects of chronic exposure to chemical pollution on the hologenome of the Manila clam. [PDF]

open access: yesEvol Appl, 2021
Abstract Chronic exposure to pollutants affects natural populations, creating specific molecular and biochemical signatures. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that chronic exposure to pollutants might have substantial effects on the Manila clam hologenome long after removal from contaminated sites.

Renal Transplants from Older Deceased Donors: Use of Preimplantation Biopsy and Differential Allocation to Dual or Single Kidney Transplant according to Histological Score Has No Advantages over Allocation to Single Kidney Transplant by Simple Clinical Indication. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Transplant, 2018
Background. Grafts from elderly donors (ECD) are increasingly allocated to single (SKT) or dual (DKT) kidney transplantation according to biopsy score. Indications and benefits of either procedure lack universal agreement. Methods. A total of 302 ECD‐transplants in period from Jan 1, 2000, to Dec 31, 2015, were allocated to SKT (SKTpre) on clinical ...

The beaten paths effect on patient inter‐regional mobility: An application to the Italian NHS

open access: yesPapers in Regional Science, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 945-977, August 2022., 2022
Abstract We study inter‐regional migration flows due to hospital admissions and focus on the impact of migration beaten paths. We estimate a gravity model applied to Italian data for the period 2010–2016. We find that beaten paths have a positive effect on inter‐regional patient flows, with estimated elasticity equal to +0.32%.

Tides, Topography, and Seagrass Cover Controls on the Spatial Distribution of Pinna nobilis on a Coastal Lagoon Tidal Flat

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 127, Issue 3, March 2022., 2022
Abstract In the last two decades Pinna nobilis, the largest bivalve mollusk endemic to the Mediterranean Sea, has recolonized the tidal flats of some coastal lagoons along the Italian Adriatic coast. In this study, we investigate the influence of tides on the spatial distribution and density of a P.

Two kinds of mafia dependency: on making and unmaking mafia men

open access: yesSocial Anthropology, Volume 28, Issue 3, Page 686-699, August 2020., 2020
This article proposes a movement between two sorts of dependency in the secretive bonds of violent men. The first forges an interdependent set of relations between mafia men, independent of the state; the second arises as a dependency of these former mafiosi on the state in order to break the interdependencies that formerly made them as mafia men.

Specific Antibody Production by Blood B Cells is Retained in Late Stage Drug‐naïve HIV‐infected Africans

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, Volume 11, Issue 2, Page 121-127, 2004., 2004
Unseparated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) obtained from drug‐naïve African individuals living in a context of multi‐infections and presenting with high viral load (VL), were cultured in vitro and tested for their ability to produce antibodies (Abs) reacting with HIV‐1 antigens. Within these PBMCs, circulating B cells were differentiated in

El arte rupestre de Huancha (Daniel Alcides Carrión - Pasco) y sus implicancias en las rutas interregionales del centro peruano durante los periodos Arcaico y Formativo

open access: yesArqueología y Sociedad
Huancha is an archaeological complex that presents a great variety of rock representations from different periods. In this paper we highlight its importance as a place of connection between the western side (the coast) and the eastern side (the Amazon basin) of the Andean mountain range, placing it within the discourse of recent research.
