A thermal centroid or a mass centroid?
Journal of Oceanography, 2006This study reveals the physical backgrounds of the geometric centroid and the thermal centroid of the Western Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP) and points out their differences. The geometric centroid (actually a very close approximation to the mass centroid) anomaly of the surface WPWP correlates more closely with the Nino-3 region sea surface temperature ...

AbstractThe concept of centroid is the multivariate equivalent of the mean. Just like the mean, the centroid of a cloud of points minimizes the sum of the squared distances from the points of the cloud to a point in the space. Centroid Hom-associative Algebras and Centroid Hom-Lie Algebras
Acta Mathematica Sinica, English Series, 2023In this article the authors construct free-centroid Hom-associative algebras and free centroid Hom-Lie algebras. They also construct some other free centroid Hom-associative by applying the Gröbner-Shirsov basis theory for unital centroid Hom-associative algebras.

Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Symposium on High Performance Distributed Computing, 2002
When one is concerned with maximizing overall program throughput, task mapping in a heterogeneous computing environment presents the problem of which computing unit(s) is best suited to perform each task. This paper explores the concept that finding a "better" starting point for the static mapping process will provide a better opportunity for success ...

Approximating the centroid is hard
Proceedings of the twenty-third annual symposium on Computational geometry - SCG '07, 2007Consider the problem of computing the centroid of a convex body in n-dimensional Euclidean space. We prove that if the body is a polytope given as an intersection of half-spaces, then computing the centroid exactly is #P-hard, even for order polytopes, a special case of 0-1 polytopes. We also prove that if the body is given by a membership oracle, then

Clusterability and Centroid Approximation
2003Identifying clusters in a dataset is valuable. Most existing data clustering algorithms need the number of clusters as an input. The present paper introduces a graphical method that outputs the number of clusters. Once the number of clusters is calculated, other clustering algorithms may use it. This method is cubic in the number of input data.

An Introduction to Centroid Cephalometrics
British Journal of Orthodontics, 1982Traditional cephalometry has depended upon measuring the relationship of anatomical points and lines (or planes) to each other. A centroid approach defines two relatively stable lines, each of which can be used for reference purposes and for analysing craniofacial changes elsewhere.
