Conellae, enigmatic structures on cephalopod shells—shapes, distribution, and formation [PDF]

open access: yesActa Palaeontologica Polonica, 2019
Conellae, enigmatic cone-shaped structures which can be found on the surface of internal moulds of cephalopod shells (predominantly of ammonoids), are regarded herein as the product of remote (biologically induced) biomineralization formed in closed-off ...

Fatty Acids and Stomach Contents Reveal Dietary Overlaps of Two Prospering Squid Species in the North Sea. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Distribution ranges of cephalopods are expanding worldwide and their abundances are increasing due to ocean warming. Recently, the broadtail shortfin squid Illex coindetii (Ommastrephidae) expanded into the North Sea where it established a successful spawning stock beside the resident veined squid Loligo forbesii (Loliginidae). Stomach content analysis

Biodiversity and Conservation of Marine Mollusks in the Indo-Pacific Convergence Zone. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
An integrated assessment has identified 11 priority mollusk conservation areas in the Indo‐Pacific Convergence Zone, which harbor 47.9% of species and 58.9% of threatened taxa, though only 18.7% have MPA coverage. Multi‐habitat zones, such as coral–mangrove areas, support 42.3% of molluscan diversity.

Functional Trait Divergence in Feeding Ecology Between Two Closely Related Upeneus Species in the Beibu Gulf: An Ecological Morphology Analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This research not only provides new insights into the niche differentiation and adaptive evolution of closely related species but also offers significant evidence for understanding resource allocation mechanisms within ecosystems. ABSTRACT Closely related species coexisting in the same habitat often undergo niche differentiation or morphological ...

Pseudogzheloceras—a new genus of Carboniferous nautilids (Cephalopoda) from Europe and North Africa

open access: yesGeo&Bio, 2021
Analysis of morphology, stratigraphic and geographic distribution of the group of nautilid species, mainly from the Westphalian of Western Europe, and the Bashkirian and Moscovian of the Donets Basin (Eastern Ukraine) made it possible to establish a new ...

Non-destructive analysis of pathological belemnite rostra by micro-CT techniques [PDF]

open access: yesActa Palaeontologica Polonica, 2020
Previously, palaeopathological features of fossil hardparts were often difficult to interpret because it was impossible to decipher their internal structure without destroying the specimens. We applied high-resolution computedtomo graphy (CT) to document

Spatial and Temporal Characteristics of Demersal Assemblages in Sığacık Bay, Central Aegean Sea, Turkey

open access: yesÇanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Journal of Marine Sciences and Fisheries, 2021
This study aimed to determine the spatial and temporal variation of species diversity and CPUE in trawl fisheries in the Central Aegean Sea (Sığacık Bay). The study also aimed to evaluate changes in some biometric parameters (mean and frequency of length)

Palaeobiology and evolutionary context of Angulithes mermeti, a streamlined early Late Cretaceous shallow-water nautiloid [PDF]

open access: yesActa Palaeontologica Polonica, 2019
Cretaceous nautiloids are commonly characterized by inflated shells and prolonged stratigraphic ranges. In the Albian, the species of Angulithes appeared and compressed, short-lived forms with narrow venters emerged during the Cenomanian age.
