M33 Cepheids from CFHT/MegaCam Survey

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2022
In this paper we analyze Sloan g, r, i archival imaging data of M33 taken by Hartman et al. using MegaCam at the Canada–France–Hawaii Telescope. To determine the distance to the M33 galaxy, we performed several analytical steps to identify its Cepheid ...

Distances and Radii of Classical Cepheids [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1985
We have used new BVRI photometry and radial velocities of a selection of bright classical Cepheids to determine their distances and radii through the surface brightness method. The improved photometry permitted, through the visual surface brightness relation, high-quality angular-diameter values for each Cepheid throughout its pulsation.

Crowded No More: The Accuracy of the Hubble Constant Tested with High-resolution Observations of Cepheids by JWST

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
High-resolution James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) observations can test confusion-limited Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations for a photometric bias that could affect extragalactic Cepheids and the determination of the Hubble constant.

A Cepheid-based Distance to the Seyfert Galaxy NGC 6814

open access: yes, 2020
We present a Cepheid-based distance to the nearby Seyfert galaxy NGC 6814 from Hubble Space Telescope observations. We obtained F555W and F814W imaging over the course of 12 visits with logarithmic time spacing in 2013 August−October.

Relative Intrinsic Scatter in Hierarchical Type Ia Supernova Sibling Analyses: Application to SNe 2021hpr, 1997bq, and 2008fv in NGC 3147

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We present Young Supernova Experiment grizy photometry of SN 2021hpr, the third Type Ia supernova sibling to explode in the Cepheid calibrator galaxy, NGC 3147.

The nebulosity and distance of the Cepheid RS Puppis [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society: Letters, 2008
Abstract Adopting a distance for RS Pup derived from a period-luminosity relation based on Cepheid parallaxes, it is shown that the phase-lag observations of the surrounding nebulosity by Kervella et al. are well fitted by a model of an equatorial disc at an angle of to the plane of the sky.

Cepheid Distance to the Virgo Cluster [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 2000
AbstractA reanalysis of the HST data on Cepheids in the Virgo cluster spiral M100 is presented, based on our study of the Galactic Cepheids. A distance modulus of 31.49 mag is derived, which is higher than the HST Key Project value of 31.04 mag obtained from the same data earlier (Ferrarese et al. 1996). The increase in the distance is caused by nearly

Cepheid Distances from Interferometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Long baseline interferometry is now able to resolve the pulsational changes of the angular diameters of a significant number of Cepheids in the solar neighborhood. This allows us to apply a new version of the Baade-Wesselink method to measure their distances, for which we do not need to estimate the star’s temperature.

The extra-galactic Cepheid distance scale from LMC and Galactic period-luminosity relations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In this paper, we recalibrate the Cepheid distance to some nearby galaxies observed by the HST Key Project and the Sandage-Tammann-Saha group. We use much of the Key Project methodology in our analysis but apply new techniques, based on Fourier methods ...

Cepheid Distances to Nearby Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1995
AbstractWe have determined new Cepheid distances on a homogeneous system to nine nearby galaxies with Cepheid observations in the V bandpass, using the extensive calibration of the galactic Cepheid PL(V) relation of Gieren, Barnes & Moffett (1993).
