Chicago–Carnegie Hubble Program: A Multiwavelength Search for the Effects of Metallicity on the Cepheid Distance Scale. I. Empirical Evidence

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Understanding the effects of metallicity on the multiwavelength properties of Cepheids is of continuing importance for their effective use as extragalactic distance indicators and an accurate measure of the Hubble constant, H _0 .

Z-Distribution and Period Gradient of Classical Cepheids in the Galactic Plane [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 1986
The z-coordinate distribution of cepheids was studied and the finding of Fernie(1968) that the Cepheid layer is inclined toward a formal Galactic plane and the Sun is located above the cepheid plane was confirmed.

TOWARDS A DETERMINATION OF DEFINITIVE PARAMETERS FOR THE LONG PERIOD CEPHEID S VULPECULAE

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2013
A new compilation of  UBV data for stars near the Cepheid S Vul incorporates BV observations from APASS and NOMAD to augment UBV observations published previously.

Cepheids as Distance Indicators

open access: yes, 1996
We review the use of Cepheids as distance indicators with particular emphasis on the methods which have been applied to HST observations of Cepheids. The calibration of the period-luminosity relations is examined in detail and we identify possible problems with the existing calibrations. New V- and I-band period luminosity relations are presented based

Rebound of Respiratory Virus Activity and Seasonality to Pre‐Pandemic Patterns

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, Volume 97, Issue 11, November 2025.
ABSTRACT The emergence of SARS‐CoV‐2 and the implementation of non‐pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) profoundly disrupted the transmission dynamics of respiratory viruses, altering their epidemiology and seasonality. However, comprehensive long‐term data on these shifts and their post‐pandemic implications remain limited.

The Dependence of the Extinction Coefficient on Reddening for Galactic Cepheids

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Cepheids are fundamental distance indicators, playing a crucial role not only in the cosmic distance ladder but also in mapping the structure, kinematics, and extinction properties of the Milky Way.

On geometric distance determination to the Cepheid RS Puppis from its light echoes

open access: yes, 2008
Context. The luminous Galactic Cepheid RS Puppis is unique in being surrounded by a dust nebula illuminated by the variable light of the Cepheid. In a recent paper in this journal, Kervella et al. (2008) report a very precise geometric distance to RS Pup,

Treatment variations in localised prostate cancer in Australia and New Zealand: a registry study

open access: yesBJU International, Volume 136, Issue S2, Page S62-S69, October 2025.
Objective To describe the patterns of care and factors associated with treatment uptake of localised prostate cancer, using the bi‐national Prostate Cancer Outcomes Registry–Australia and New Zealand (PCOR‐ANZ) database. Methods Data for 36 504 patients, diagnosed between 2015 and 2018, from New Zealand and seven Australian jurisdictions were evaluated.

The Cepheid distance to M96 and the Hubble constant [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1999
ABSTRA C T HST WFPC2 observations of Cepheids in M96 (NGC 3368) are used to find a distance to that galaxy of 11:2 ^ 1:0 Mpc. This estimate is based on a calibration of the Cepheid period‐luminosity relation in the Large Magellanic Cloud, and includes a correction for the difference in metallicity between the two systems.

‘Why Didn't I Get That Choice?’: A Qualitative Exploration of How Cervical Screening Choices Are Understood and Experienced by Screen‐Eligible People in Australia, Two Years After Self‐Collection Became an Option for All

open access: yesHealth Expectations, Volume 28, Issue 4, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Australia's human papillomavirus (HPV)‐based National Cervical Screening Program guidelines state that anyone eligible for screening should be offered a choice of using self‐collection or clinician collection for initial screening. Aim To explore the awareness and experiences of women and people with a cervix who have been screened ...
