VARIABLE-STARS IN THE IRREGULAR GALAXY NGC-2366 (DDO-42)

open access: yes, 1995
Observations of the resolved stars in the Irregular galaxy NGC 2366, obtained over the ten year period from March 1984 to March 1994, are presented. Thirty separate epochs were used to search for variable stars, and a total of 13 were found, of which 6 ...

Variable stars in Galactic globular clusters

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We identified a sample of 88 bona fide Population II Cepheids (henceforth referred to as Cepheids) and 44 candidates in Galactic globular clusters (GCs). Seventy-eight of the Cepheids in the sample align within 2 σ of the period-luminosity relation for Milky Way Type II Cepheids (T2CEPs).

The long-period variable stars of M33 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Infrared photometry of long-period variables (LPVs) in M33 shows that the majority of those identified up to now are supergiants. The period-luminosity relation for these stars yields a distance of M33 of 760 kpc with a 10 percent uncertainty.

Determination of Cepheid parameters by light-curve template fitting

open access: yes, 2005
We describe techniques to characterize the light curves of regular variable stars by applying principal component analysis (PCA) to a training set of high-quality data, and to fit the resulting light-curve templates to sparse and noisy photometry to ...

Toward a Comprehensive Grid of Cepheid Models with MESA. I. Uncertainties of the Evolutionary Tracks of Intermediate-mass Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
Helium-burning stars, in particular Cepheids, are especially difficult to model, as the choice of free parameters can greatly impact the shape of the blue loops—the part of the evolutionary track at which the instability strip is crossed.

Cepheid temperature and the Blazhko effect

open access: yes, 1995
Two separate research projects were covered under this contract. The first project was to study the temperatures of Cepheid variable stars, while the second was a study of the Blazhko effect in RR Larae, both of them using IUE data. They will be reported

Spatial Age Distribution of Classical Cepheids in Spiral Galaxies: The Cases of M31 and M33

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Classical Cepheids can be used as age indicators due to well-established period–age and period–age–color relations. G. De Somma et al. refined these relations by including a metallicity term and different mass–luminosity assumptions.
