Description of Flavicapitulum gen. nov. and two new species of Marmoreocelis from thermal habitats in the Americas

Abstract Three novel taxa in the Coleofasciculales were observed in hot springs in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, United States, and in the Tabaconcito thermal springs on the Rio Tabacón in Costa Rica. Flavicapitulum vaporiphilum gen. et sp. nov. was located in a supported clade with Gracilinea and Marmoreocelis.

Linking variation in genome size to cyst size in chrysophytes

Abstract Genome size varies tremendously across eukaryotes, which often contain far more DNA than expected from their biological complexity. To explain this paradox, selection‐based hypotheses propose that genome size evolves through selection acting on life‐history traits correlated with the phenotypic effects, independent of its genic content.

Circumscription of three new taxa of Merismopedia‐like Cyanobacteria shows how far convergent evolution can go

Abstract The genus Merismopedia (Merismopediaceae, Chroococcales), characterized by rectangular colonies with cells arranged in regular perpendicular rows and columns, represents a challenging study system due to its limited cultivability.
