Residual Stress States in Microstructurally Graded PBF–LB/M Austenitic Steel Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines microstructurally graded 316L rectangular tube profiles fabricated via PBF–LB/M using a dual‐laser system. A 1 kW top‐hat and a 400 W Gaussian laser create distinct grain sizes and crystallographic texture. Mechanical properties are linked to microstructural evolution driven by processing conditions.

MHD oxidant intermediate temperature ceramic heater study [PDF]

open access: yes
The use of three types of directly fired ceramic heaters for preheating oxygen enriched air to an intermediate temperature of 1144K was investigated. The three types of ceramic heaters are: (1) a fixed bed, periodic flow ceramic brick regenerative heater;

Crystal‐Symmetry‐Driven Build Orientation and its Impact on the {110}<100> Goss Texture Formation and Mechanical Properties of Laser Powder Bed Fused AISI 316L

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores a crystal‐symmetry‐based approach to optimize mechanical properties in laser powder bed fused AISI 316L with predominant {110}<100> Goss textures. By varying the build orientation, the microstructure can be tailored and the tensile properties optimized. The tilted build (T110) achieved the highest strength while preserving ductility,

Thermal Conductivity of Silicone Rubber Composites: Effects of Ceramic Fillers, Pressure, and Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the influence of ceramic fillers—aluminum oxide, boron nitride, and a combination of aluminum oxide and zinc oxide—with different particle sizes, on the thermal conductivity of solid silicone rubber. Additionally, the impact of potential synergistic interactions from the simultaneous addition of selected fillers is explored to ...

Plasma gun with coaxial powder feed and adjustable cathode [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
An improved plasma gun coaxially injects particles of ceramic materials having high melting temperatures into the central portion of a plasma jet. This results in a more uniform and higher temperature and velocity distribution of the sprayed particles ...

CALPHAD‐Guided Prediction and Interpretation of Phase Formation in Ta–Mo–Cr–Ti–Al Refractory High‐Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study designs Ta–Mo–Cr–Ti–Al refractory high‐entropy alloys with a disordered body‐centered‐cubic A2 crystal structure aiming for improved ductility, lower density, and oxidation resistance. Four alloy compositions are identified by thermodynamic calculations.

The edge artifact extraction method for Si3N4 ceramic bearing rolling element microcracks characterization

open access: yesScientific Reports
Aiming at the problem that the edge artifacts of Si3N4 ceramic bearing rolling element microcracks have low contrast, contain noise, and easily merge with the background, making it difficult to segment. A method based on 2D discrete wavelet transform and
