Encyclopedia of 2D β′‐In2Se3 Growth Using Chemical Vapor Deposition: The Effects of Synthesis Parameters Onto Material Quality

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A distinct semi‐confined inner‐tube chemical vapor deposition geometry enables reproducible, large‐area growth of phase‐pure 2D β′‐In2Se3 from InI + Se precursors. Engineering local vapor transport and optimizing precursor delivery and temperature–time conditions yield uniform continuous films.

Sol-gel derived hydroxyapatite, fluorhydroxyapatite and fluorapatite coatings for titanium implants

open access: yes, 2009
Currently, most titanium implant coatings are made using hydroxyapatite and a plasma-spraying technique. There are however limitations associated with the plasma-spraying process including; poor adherence, high porosity and cost.

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

Development of Coatings for Gas Turbines Burning Biomass and Waste-Fuels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Worldwide, carbon dioxide emission reductions are in progress following the Kyoto Protocol implementation programme to mitigate climate change. More stringent reductions are expected to follow the present programme which ends in 2012.

Research progress in high‑temperature performance testing methods for anti oxidation ablative coatings

open access: yesCailiao gongcheng
As the demand for aerospace vehicles to withstand high temperatures, ultra-high speeds, and extremely harsh service environments becomes increasingly prominent, there are higher requirements for thermal protection materials in terms of temperature ...

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Low-Friction Coatings Grown on Cemented Carbides by Modulating the Sputtering Process Parameters of TiN Targets

open access: yes
TiN thin films are widely used as protective and decorative coatings for tools in industry. Previous studies have focused on the deposition of TiN coatings on substrates by reactive magnetron sputtering, whereas the use of TiN targets avoids problems ...

Enhancing Bubble Removal in Geometry‐Optimized Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
3D‐printed lattice electrodes outperform stochastic foams in alkaline water electrolysis despite 20%–25% lower surface area. Straight flow channels generate Venturi‐like bubble entrainment, suppressing gas accumulation that renders foam interiors electrochemically inactive.

Effect of Top-Coat Structure on Thermal Stress in GdYb-YSZ/YSZ Double-Ceramic-Layer Thermal Barrier Coatings

open access: yes
Investigating the relationship between coating structure and thermal stress is crucial for improving the service performance of double-ceramic-layer (DCL) thermal barrier coatings (TBCs).
