The development and characteristics of a hand-held high power diode laser-based industrial tile grout removal and single-stage sealing system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
As the field of laser materials processing becomes ever more diverse, the high power diode laser (HPDL) is now being regarded by many as the most applicable tool.

Convergence of linear processes generated by negatively dependent random variables under sub-linear expectations

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2023
In this paper, we study the complete convergence and complete moment convergence of linear processes generated by negatively dependent random variables under sub-linear expectations. The obtained results complement the ones of Meng, Wang, and Wu (Commun.

Substrate surface engineering for tailoring properties of functional ceramic thin films

open access: yes, 2004
Using oxide substrates for functional ceramic thin film deposition beyond their usual application as chemical inert, lattice-matched support for the films represents a novel concept in ceramic thin film research.

A comparative investigation of the wear characteristics of a high power diode laser generated single-stage tile grout and commercial epoxy tile grout [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A comparative study of a single-stage ceramic tile grout, generated using a 60 W high power diode laser (HPDL), and a commercially available tile grout has determined the wear characteristics of the two materials.

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Effects of additives in colloidal silica based inorganic-hybrid binder for mineral wool insulation boards

open access: yesJournal of Asian Ceramic Societies, 2020
In the mineral insulation board industry, it has been a challenge to replace the current organic binder to eco-friendly inorganic binder to enhance the fire-resistance, and reduce toxicity.

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.
