Synthesis of ceramic membranes
Journal of Materials Science, 1992Non-supported γ-alumina films are prepared from a boehmite colloidal suspension. After calcination at 600°C, the microstructure is characterized by a mean pore diameter of 3 nm, a porosity of 50% and a tortuosity of 5.5. The structure is formed by card packed, plate-shaped particles, giving rise to slit-shaped pores.

Membranes: Optimising the regeneration of ceramic membranes
Filtration + Separation, 2011Understanding the resuspension of filter cakes on ceramic membranes is the key to providing the optimal operating conditions for the regeneration of ceramic membrane filters. Tobias Quadt and Eberhard Schmidt describe a new pilot plant procedure and findings to aid this operating process.

Porous ceramic membranes for membrane reactors
2013This chapter discusses the research and development of porous ceramic membranes and their application as membrane reactors (MRs) for both gas and liquid phase reaction and separation. The most commonly used preparation techniques for the synthesis of porous ceramic membranes are introduced first followed by a discussion of the various techniques used ...

Ceramic membranes have undergone a concerted research development in the past two decades, since their initial development for uranium isotope processing for the nuclear industry in 1940s. The diversity of inorganic materials, such as ceramics, metals, and nonpolymeric carbons, has allowed researchers to build membranes by a number of processes ranging

Membrane module can be understood as a physical unit, which gathers all the elements that participate in the separation process. Membrane module is, basically, composed by membranes, channels where feed goes through, the permeate and concentrate, and by pressure or current support structures applied to the system.
