Hydroxyapatite Ceramic Hip Survey: Ceramic/Ceramic Bearings
Key Engineering Materials, 2007This paper describes the clinical application of alumina ceramic and, more recently, Zirconia Toughened Alumina (ZTA), to the bearing surfaces of hip implants with a maximum follow up of fifteen years. Patients are assessed pre- and post-operatively using the Harris Hip Score.

Debris From Failed Ceramic-on-Ceramic and Ceramic-on-Polyethylene Hip Prostheses
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 2001To compare the properties of wear debris between ceramic-on-ceramic and ceramic-on-polyethylene total hip prostheses, particles were isolated and characterized from tissue biopsies obtained at revision arthroplasty or autopsy from two similar uncemented modular hip systems.

“Ceramic Sets” in Maya and Toltec Ceramics
2018This chapter suggests a way Mesoamerican archaeologists can move beyond the Type-Variety system of ceramic classification. It offers evidence for a ceramic unit called the “ceramic set.” It is assumed consumers within a culture each had a similar range of serving and preparation needs and the range of formal variation found in different types of ...

Material Aspects of Ceramic-Ceramic and Ceramic-Metal Bonding
1990The projected increased use of ceramics in advanced engineering frequently depends on the successful achievement of ceramic-ceramic or ceramic-metal bonding. A range of joining techniques could be used to achieve bonding, but it is argued that those most relevant to structural applications are diffusion bonding using interlayers, brazing and glazing ...
