Ceramic nanowelding [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
AbstractCeramics possess high temperature resistance, extreme hardness, high chemical inertness and a lower density compared to metals, but there is currently no technology that can produce satisfactory joints in ceramic parts and preserve the excellent properties of the material.

Fabrication of Sm:LuAG transparent ceramics with different doping concentrations for cladding from co-precipitated nano-powders

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
For high-repetition-rate nanosecond high-power solid-state lasers, it is essential to choose gain media with moderate saturation flux. Among these materials, Nd:Lu3Al5O12 (LuAG) transparent ceramics have shown significant potential.

Li2CO3-affiliative mechanism for air-accessible interface engineering of garnet electrolyte via facile liquid metal painting

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
At Li-garnet interface, the poor interfacial wettability due to Li2CO3 passivation causes large resistance and unstable contact. Here the authors propose a Li2CO3-affiliative mechanism for air-accessible interface engineering of garnet electrolyte with ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Modulation of the morphotropic phase boundary for high-performance ductile thermoelectric materials

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
The flexible thermoelectric technique, which can convert heat from the human body to electricity via the Seebeck effect, is expected to provide a peerless solution for the power supply of wearables.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Stability of tricalcium phosphate polymorphs in the Ca3(PO4)2–Zn3(PO4)2–Mg3(PO4)2 system and solid-state compatibilities of CaO–P2O5–MgO–ZnO system at 900 °C

open access: yesBoletín de la Sociedad Española de Cerámica y Vidrio
Stability and microstructure of tricalcium phosphate polymorphs (TCP) in the Ca3(PO4)2–Zn3(PO4)2·Mg3(PO4)2 phase equilibria diagram from experimental studies between 1200 °C and 1400 °C have been determined.

Improved method for producing metal-reinforced ceramics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Vacuum impregnation process produces metal-reinforced ceramics with only 3 percent void space volumes. Method may be used to produce metal-reinforced ceramics for high temperature or structural applications such as furnace supports and ...
