Functional validation of a white pupae minimal gene construct in Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae). [PDF]

open access: yesInsect Sci
An intronless version of the white pupae (wp) gene was engineered to restore the wild type brown puparium color in white pupae phenotype mutants of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata. Functionality of the minimal gene version (mini‐wp) was verified in vivo, as one copy of mini‐wp successfully restored the wild type phenotype in homozygous ...

Iflaviruses in arthropods: when small is mighty

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Many arthropod species harbor iflaviruses, which often cause covert (asymptomatic) infections, but may still affect host fitness. We review the impact of iflaviruses on arthropod fitness, immunity, behaviour as well as the iflavirus’ host range, transmission, tissue tropism and the interactions with other microorganisms within arthropods.

Cross-Resistance to Insecticides in a Malathion-Resistant Strain of Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Resistance to malathion has been reported in field populations of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae), in areas of Spain where an intensive use of this insecticide was maintained for several years.

Aphaereta ceratitivora sp. n. (Hymenoptera, Braconidae), a new parasitoid of Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera, Tephritidae) from the Azores

open access: yesZooKeys, 2012
A new gregarious larval-pupal endoparasitoid of Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae) is described and illustrated: Aphaereta ceratitivora sp. n. (Braconidae: Alysiinae: Alysiini).

LsFAMeT and LsJHAMT coordinate JH biosynthesis to regulate fecundity in Laodelphax striatellus

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The small brown planthopper (SBPH), Laodelphax striatellus, can trigger large‐scale outbreaks when encountering suitable habitats during migration due to their strong reproductive ability. This study investigated the role of juvenile hormone (JH) in regulating SBPH reproduction.

Prey Range and Voracity of Main Insect Natural Enemies of Pests in Corsican Clementine Orchards

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
To assess the biocontrol potential on the main arthropod pests of clementine orchards in Corsica, laboratory experiments were carried out using five potential predators. Their prey range and voracity were tested on three pest species. Then, a global predation rate index was calculated at the scale of the entire community of insect predators.

Ultraconserved Non-coding DNA Within Diptera and Hymenoptera

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2020
This study has taken advantage of the availability of the assembled genomic sequence of flies, mosquitos, ants and bees to explore the presence of ultraconserved sequence elements in these phylogenetic groups.
