Seed of Cercis siliquastrum L (Leguminosae, Caesalpinioideae): Reserves and their Utilization after Germination

Abstract:An ultrastructural study on the reserves stored in cotyledons and endosperm and on their utilization after germination has been carried out in Cercis siliquastrum seeds. The observations have shown that all the cotyledonal reserves of proteins and lipids are used during seedling growth.

Cercis siliquastrum L.(Caesalpiniaceae), the Juda's tree is a native shrub or tree of the coast and islands of the Mediterranean area of Yugoslavia. The investigation of transpiration (Tr) of leaves was carried out using STOCKER'S method in natural conditions. Stomata opening degree was determined by infiltration method.

[The action of kinetin on dormant seeds of Cercis siliquastrum. Preliminary observations].

Seeds of Cercis siliquastrum L., whose dormancy is broken both by low temperatures and by treatments with gibberellin, were treated with kinetin at various concentrations. This substance does not induce germination, but causes the detaching of the basal portion of the tegument along a circular line without damaging the cells of tegument itself.
