Laparoscopic abdominal cerclage
Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics of North America, 2004Cervical cerclage is an effective treatment of cervical incompetence. It is conventionally done by laparotomy approach. Laparoscopic abdominal cerclage is a less invasive technique that could replace the laparotomy technique. Laparoscopic abdominal cerclage does not require hospitalization, is associated with less pain, and leads to a faster recovery ...

Transabdominal cervicoisthmic cerclage
International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, 2005It has been difficult to establish the role of the transabdominal cerclage in some of its indications. Nobody doubts its effectiveness in conditions where a vaginal cerclage is impossible, but indication for this procedure is still controversial in those patients that have yet the possibility to receive a transvaginal cerclage. Only few reports compare

Transabdominal cervical cerclage
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 2010Background: Transabdominal cervical cerclage has been performed via laparotomy for over four decades. A laparoscopic approach has recently been developed and offers the potential for lower morbidity.Aims: The experience of one operator with transabdominal cervical cerclage via laparotomy is reviewed to establish a baseline with which to compare ...

The treatment of patients with cervical incompetence presenting with advanced cervical changes in the second trimester remains a challenge to every obstetrician. Cerclage operation may be the only hope for prolonging gestation until fetal viability is reached.

Transabdominal Cerclage: A Laparoscopic Approach
Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1998The placement of a transabdominal cervical cerclage has been regarded as considerably more morbid than a transvaginal cerclage, in part due to the need for two laparotomies. We describe a technique for the laparoscopic placement and removal of a transabdominal cerclage. Two cases of women with insufficient cervical tissue to place a transvaginal ...

During a 20-year period, 40 pregnancies were managed in 32 patients with a diagnosis of an incompetent cervix, a ratio of 1:775 deliveries. Diagnosis before development of symptoms produced a 92% fetal salvage, with 68% reaching 36 weeks of gestation. Development of symptoms before cerclage resulted in only a 40% fetal salvage.

Once a cerclage, not always a cerclage.
The Journal of reproductive medicine, 1995A study was performed to evaluate the outcome of pregnancies in which the decision was not to repeat cerclage in women with a doubtful indication for the previous one. Thirty-five women with a history of at least one previous McDonald cerclage were followed prospectively.

Emergent cerclage may be defined as that performed in the setting of advanced cervical dilation with bulging or "hourglass" membranes. During a five year period, 15 patients with bulging or hourglass membranes and marked cervical dilation in the second trimester were treated with emergent cerclage. Included were two triplet gestations.

Cervico-isthmial incompetence develops in the second trimester of pregnancy. There are problems as to the correct treatment. The authors report four cases where stitches were put in late using the technique of "parachute" cerclage. This made it possible for four live babies to be born. A search of the literature shows that after late cerclage in 60-90%
