Coordination challenges shape signal complexity in chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes verus), but not in mangabeys (Cercocebus atys atys) [PDF]
Increased coordination challenges, such as in the negotiation of group movement and activity, has been suggested to promote communicative complexity. This hypothesis, however, has rarely been tested within and between species, specifically in relation to

Behavioural patterns of vocal greeting production in four primate species [PDF]
Social animals have evolved a range of signals to avoid aggressive and facilitate affiliative interactions. Vocal behaviour is especially important in this respect with many species, including various primates, producing acoustically distinct ‘greeting ...

Conserved presence of G-quadruplex forming sequences in the Long Terminal Repeat Promoter of Lentiviruses [PDF]
G-quadruplexes (G4s) are secondary structures of nucleic acids that epigenetically regulate cellular processes. In the human immunodeficiency lentivirus 1 (HIV-1), dynamic G4s are located in the unique viral LTR promoter.

Agonistic Strategies and Spatial Distribution in Captive Sooty Mangabeys (Cercocebus Atys) [PDF]
The aim of this article is to study the relationship between the dominance hierarchy and the spatial distribution of a group of captive sooty mangabeys ( Cercocebus atys). The analysis of the spatial distribution of individuals in relation to their rank in the dominance hierarchy showed a clear linear hierarchy in which the dominant individual was ...

Food competition in captive female sooty mangabeys ( Cercocebus torquatus atys )
We studied the social and foraging behavior of two captive groups of sooty mangabeys under two different spatial food situations. These food conditions were clumped (food was placed in a box) and dispersed (food was dispersed over the entire enclosure). In each group five adult females and two adult males were observed.

Reciprocal Signaling During Approaches Relates to Close Relationships Within and Between Two Primate Species [PDF]
Signaling can facilitate coordination and cooperation, aiding relationship formation and maintenance across social animals. Reciprocal signaling may reflect equitable social motivation, thereby supporting coordination and bonding, especially in social ...

Two-year follow-up of macaques developing intermittent control of the human immunodeficiency virus homolog simian immunodeficiency virus SIVmac251 in the chronic phase of infection [PDF]
Off-therapy control of viremia by HIV-infected individuals has been associated with two likely players: a restricted viral reservoir and an efficient cell-mediated immune response.

Evidence to Suggest that Copulatory Vocalizations in Women Are Not a Reflexive Consequence of Orgasm [PDF]
The current studies were conducted in order to investigate the phenomenon of copulatory vocalizations and their relationship to orgasm in women. Data were collected from 71 sexually active heterosexual women (M age = 21.68 years ± .52) recruited from the
