Blood Pressure Control With Clevidipine Is Associated With Hematoma Volume Reduction in Acute Hypertensive Intracerebral Hemorrhage: A Single‐Center Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 7, July 2026.
In this prospective cohort study of 64 patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage, intravenous clevidipine administration achieved rapid blood pressure control and was associated with greater 24‐h hematoma volume reduction compared with standard antihypertensive therapy (14.7% vs. 4.5% in controls).

Diagnostic Value of Neurofilament Light Chain and Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein in Differentiating Primary From Serious Secondary Headache

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 7, July 2026.
In patients presenting to the emergency department with acute non‐traumatic headache, serum GFAP and neurofilament light chain were higher in serious secondary headache than in primary headache. GFAP showed stronger diagnostic performance and remained independently associated with serious secondary headache after adjustment for clinical risk factors ...

Late Cognitive or Mood Alterations With ‘Status Cribrosum’ and Diffuse White Matter Lesions: A New Cerebral Small Vessel Disease Phenotype Associated With Rare COL4A1 Variants Located Within Exon 23

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 7, July 2026.
We report four unrelated patients carrying rare COL4A1 glycine variants encoded by exon 23 and presenting with late‐onset cognitive and/or psychiatric symptoms. Brain MRI was characterised by a severe cerebral small vessel disease with diffuse white matter hyperintensities and prominent enlargement of basal ganglia perivascular spaces leading to a ...

Proteolytic remodelling of the extracellular matrix by pericytes

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 13, Page 3899-3953, July 2026.
Pericytes are specialised perivascular cells intimately connected with endothelial cells and essential for the maintenance of vascular beds. They contribute to the formation and remodelling of the extracellular matrix by actively secreting proteases and protease inhibitors.
