Fractal Analysis of Retinal Vessels and their Relationship with Cerebral Microcirculation Pathology – A Narrative Review

open access: yesApplied Medical Informatics, 2020
One of the most reliable in vivo examination methods of human microvasculature is represented by ophthalmoscopy. Due to ophthalmoscopy, retinal circulation can reveal multiple morphological details that can serve as diagnosis biomarkers for retinal ...

Cationic Peptoids for Systemic In Vivo Cartilage‐Targeting

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Systemically‐dosed Cy5‐labeled cationic peptoid probe (NlysO)7 (yellow) binds to the cartilage's glycosaminoglycan content in vivo across the entire body of a neonatal mouse imaged by light sheet fluorescence microscopy, revealing fluorescence uptake in generic cartilage as well as the developing and ossifying bones.

Evolutionary changes leading to efficient glymphatic circulation in the mammalian brain

open access: yesNature Communications
The functional significance of the morphological and genetic changes that occurred in the brain during evolution is not fully understood. Here we show the relationships between evolutionary changes of the brain and glymphatic circulation.

The selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor paroxetine improves right ventricular systolic function in experimental pulmonary hypertension

open access: yesJournal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology Plus
Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) often leads to right ventricle (RV) failure, a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Despite advancements in PH management, progression to RV maladaptation and subsequent failure remain a clinical challenge.

FOXQ1 Regulates Brain Endothelial Mitochondrial Function by Orchestrating Calcium Signaling and Cristae Morphology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FOXQ1 emerges as a master transcriptional regulator of brain endothelial metabolism, orchestrating mitochondrial function through dual control of calcium signaling and cristae organization. This study reveals that brain endothelial cells rely on oxidative phosphorylation rather than glycolysis alone, challenging the current metabolic paradigm and ...

Unilateral Antegrade Cerebral Perfusion versus Deep Hypothermic Circulatory Arrest during Acute Aortic Dissection Repair: A Single Center Experience

open access: yesActa Clinica Croatica, 2022
Introduction: The gold standard of circulation strategy and arterial cannulation during acute aortic dissection is still indisputable. Unilateral/bilateral antegrade cerebral perfusion (UACP/BACP) and deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (HCA) remains a

Monro-Kellie 2.0: The dynamic vascular and venous pathophysiological components of intracranial pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
For 200 years, the ‘closed box’ analogy of intracranial pressure (ICP) has underpinned neurosurgery and neuro-critical care. Cushing conceptualised the Monro-Kellie doctrine stating that a change in blood, brain or CSF volume resulted in reciprocal ...
