Susceptibility-Weighted Imaging of Cerebral Fat Embolism

Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 2010
Cerebral fat embolism (CFE) causes microinfarcts, vasogenic edema, and petechiae in the brain. Conventional magnetic resonance imaging has been reported to effectively visualize microinfarcts and vasogenic edema in CFE, but not petechiae. We report 3 cases of CFE in which susceptibility-weighted imaging distinctly demonstrated multiple minute ...

Cerebral fat embolism studied with MRI and SPECT

Neuroradiology, 1993
In a patient with fat embolism to the brain CT showed no abnormality. MRI performed after recovery from coma, when the patient had aphasia and quadriparesis, demonstrated multiple high signal abnormalities in the white matter on both T1- and T2-weighted images.

Magnetic resonance imaging of cerebral fat embolism

Neuroradiology, 1991
The cerebral fat embolism is a potentially serious complication of fractures but clinical cases often go undiagnosed. Two cases of clinically diagnosed cerebral fat embolism are reported, and MR images of these patients are described. While brain CT revealed no abnormality, MR imaging showed relative low-intensity areas on T1-weighted images and high ...

Hypodense artery sign in cerebral fat embolism

Practical Neurology, 2017
A female patient in her mid 70s underwent aortic valve replacement and single-vessel coronary artery bypass grafting, but after awakening from anaesthesia was found to have left-sided weakness. She had a history of severe aortic stenosis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidaemia.

Periodic EEG Patterns in Cerebral Fat Embolism

Clinical Electroencephalography, 1983
A 24-year-old male developed fat embolism syndrome (FES) 18 hours after accidental tibial and metatarsal fractures. The onset was characterized by coma, generalized seizures, respiratory distress and hypoxemia. Multiple prolonged portable electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings showed a variety of progressively changing patterns including continuous ...
