Cerebral Perfusion and Brain Oxygen Saturation Monitoring with: Jugular Venous Oxygen Saturation, Cerebral Oximetry, and Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography.

Anesthesiology clinics, 2021
Accumulating evidence indicates that cerebral desaturation in the perioperative period occurs more frequently than recognized. Combining monitoring modalities that reflect different aspects of cerebral perfusion status, such as near-infrared spectroscopy, jugular bulb saturation, and transcranial Doppler ultrasonography, may provide an extended window ...

Measurement of regional cerebral oxygen saturation

1998
The brain with its comparatively high metabolism is extremely sensitive to hypoxia and ischaemia. Hypoxic brain damage may occur in the case of a mismatch of oxygen supply and demand. For example, excessive demand can be found during cerebral fits. On the other hand a reduction of cerebral blood flow may lead to an inadequate delivery of oxygen.

REGIONAL CEREBRAL OXYGEN SATURATION IN VALVE SURGERY

Journal of Medicine and Pharmacy, 2017
Objective: To investigate regional cerebral oxygen saturation values and determine the correlation between regional cerebral oxygen saturation and cardiac output, cardiac index in valve surgical patients. Subjects and methods: A total of 51 valve surgical patients were enrolled in the study.

Changes of Cerebral Tissue Oxygen Saturation at Sleep Transitions in Adolescents

2014
In adults, cerebral oxy-([O₂Hb]) and deoxyhemoglobin concentrations ([HHb]) change characteristically at transitions of sleep stages. The aims were to assess these changes in adolescents and additionally to measure tissue oxygen saturation (StO₂) by near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS).

Effect of Acetazolamide on Regional Cerebral Oxygen Saturation and Regional Cerebral Blood Flow

Stroke, 1995
Background and Purpose To verify whether the monitoring of regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO 2 ) with transcranial near-infrared spectroscopy would successfully reflect changes in intracranial hemodynamics but not changes in extracranial compartment, we measured rSO 2 and ...

Relation of cerebral tissue oxygenation index to central venous oxygen saturation in children

Intensive Care Medicine, 2004
To evaluate the relationship between the cerebral tissue oxygenation index measured by near-infrared spectroscopy and central venous oxygen saturation (SvO2) after corrective surgery of congenital heart defects in children.Prospective observational clinical study.A tertiary neonatal and paediatric intensive care unit for paediatric cardiology.Neonates ...

[Is cerebral venous oxygen saturation an indicator of cerebral circulation?].

Der Anaesthesist, 1995
The arteriovenous oxygen content difference (avDO2) of the brain is dependent on O2 consumption (CM-RO2) and cerebral blood flow (CBF). With unchanging arterial O2 content, avDO2 is inversely related to cerebral venous O2 saturation (SO2). Measurement of SO2 in the jugular bulb not only provides information about the O2 balance of the brain, but may ...

Jugular Bulb Oxygen Saturation Monitoring for Evaluating Cerebral Ischemia

Critical Care Nursing Quarterly, 1994
Traumatic brain injury challenges the health care team to employ treatment modalities to prevent secondary brain damage. Initially, the focus was on controlling intracranial pressure and maintaining cerebral perfusion pressure. It is now known it is more critical to determine whether flow matches the brain's metabolic needs as indicated by the cerebral

Changes in cerebral oxygen saturation with change in posture: A preliminary report

Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, 1997
Disease of the major vessels in the neck can disrupt autoregulation and lead to changes in the cerebral blood flow and cerebral autoregulation. These changes can be reflected by means of cerebral oxygen saturation. We measured cerebral oxygen saturation in 20 patients with atherosclerotic disease of the carotid and vertebral arteries and compared ...

Cerebral and peripheral oxygen saturation during red cell transfusion

Journal of Surgical Research, 2003
Changes in regional hemoglobin oxygen saturation occur in response to blood transfusion and can be measured by near infrared spectroscopy.Cerebral (CsO2) and peripheral (PsO2) oxygen saturation were monitored with an INVOS 4100 near infrared spectroscopy oximeter in 29 patients undergoing 84 intraoperative blood transfusions during aortic or spinal ...
