Impaired cerebrospinal fluid pressure
2018Abnormalities of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure are relatively common and may lead to a variety of symptoms, with headache usually being the most prominent one. The clinical presentation of alterations in CSF pressure may vary significantly and show a striking similitude to several primary headache syndromes.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Pressure in the Anesthetized Rat
Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, 2007The primary aims of this study were to determine the major frequencies and powers of oscillations in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure in the anesthetized rat, and determine whether the CSF pressure oscillations correlated with the major oscillation frequencies in the cardiovascular and respiratory systems as proposed by some chiropractic theories. The

Efforts to advance the science of medicine in later years have made ever increasing use of measurements 1 —a trend which is natural and important and which has occurred before in the development of other sciences. But our science, unlike some of the others, as a rule does not permit a high degree of accuracy in its measurements; and we, familiar with ...

Normal Cerebrospinal Fluid Pressure in the Newborn
Neuropediatrics, 1986Lumbar CSF pressure (CSFP) was measured on 61 occasions, in 49 babies undergoing lumbar puncture as part of a septic screen, by means of Gaeltec pressure transducers. In normal circumstances, intracranial pressure (ICP) has the same value. Measurements were made when the baby was horizontal and quiet, with the head deflexed.

Effect of spinal fluid pressure on cerebrospinal fluid formation
Experimental Neurology, 1971Abstract The effect of spinal fluid pressure on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) formation was measured in rabbits and cats. A decreased rate of CSF production with increased perfusion pressure was found, which was best illustrated by paired comparisons in individual animals during ventriculocisternal perfusion at both low (−5 to −10 cm H2O) and high (20–25

Halothane, Hypocapnia, and Cerebrospinal Fluid Pressure in Neurosurgery
Anesthesiology, 1972Recent studies by McDowall, Jennett, Barker, and Fitch [1–4] demonstrated that halothane may increase intracranial pressure, especially in patients with intracranial space-occupying lesions, and suggested that hypocapnia may not prevent such increases.

Low cerebrospinal fluid pressure headache
Current Treatment Options in Neurology, 2002Alterations in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure lead to neurologic symptoms, the most common clinical manifestation of which is headache. Typically, the headache is orthostatic and related to traction on pain-sensitive intracranial and meningeal structures, distention on periventricular pain-sensitive areas, and direct pressure on pain conveying ...

Cerebrospinal fluid pressure in the pathogenesis of glaucoma
2015The optic nerve head forms the interface between the intraocular compartment and the retrobulbar compartment. The former is characterized by what we term intraocular pressure (IOP) and the latter by orbital cerebrospinal fluid pressure (CSFP). The trans-lamina cribrosa pressure difference (TLCPD) is defined as the difference between the pressures in ...

Pathogenesis of raised cerebrospinal fluid pressure
Documenta Ophthalmologica, 1982Raised cerebrospinal fluid pressure may be caused by (a) subarachnoid CSF circulation blocks (b) obstruction of CSF absorption in the arachnoid villi (c) disorders of the venous return from the superior sagittal sinus to the heart. The common factor in these mechanisms is obstructed CSF drainage.

Low cerebrospinal fluid pressure syndromes
Neurologic Clinics, 2004Only 12 years ago the first report on pachymeningeal gadolinium enhancement in low-pressure headaches appeared in the literature. In this short interval the enormous impact of MRI on so-called "spontaneous intracranial hypotension" and "low-pressure head-aches" has become obvious.
