Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

Measurement of Cerebrospinal Fluid Pressure in the Chicken
Abstract A technique for measuring the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure from the cisterna magna of anesthetized chickens is described. The mean CSF pressure for 20 adult, female, White Leghorn chickens was 42.0 ± 3.4 mm. H2 O. Waves associated with respiratory movements and the arterial pulse were visible in the CSF pressure record.

Clinical Validation of Plasma p‐217tau in Neurological Diseases
ABSTRACT Objective Plasma p‐217tau is a minimally invasive but specific biomarker for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, its disease specificity remains to be clinically evaluated. We validated the reliability of the p‐217tau biomarker in 12 other neurological diseases.

Cerebrospinal fluid pressures during halothane anaesthesia [PDF]
Changes in cerebrospinal fluid pressure, venous pressure, and arterial pressure induced by different concentrations of halothane were measured in ten elderly patients prior to the beginning of surgery. Cerebrospinal fluid and venous pressures were recorded by a water manometer and arterial pressure with a sphygmomanometer.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Influence of cerebrospinal fluid on epidural pressure [PDF]
Summary The pressure in the epidural space was measured with a water manometer in 40 women receiving elective epidural for pain relief in labour, and in three patients who were undergoing lumbar puncture. Injection of a small volume of fluid in the epidural space produced a positive pressure in all subjects, with ...

The Role of Calcitonin Gene‐Related Peptide in High‐Altitude Headache: A Prospective Field Study
ABSTRACT Objective High‐altitude headache (HAH) is a common neurological condition associated with rapid ascent to high altitude. The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying HAH remain incompletely understood. Calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP), a neuropeptide implicated in migraine pathophysiology, may play a key role in the pathophysiology of ...
