Thermal evolution of ceria-zirconia metallorganic precursors

Thermochimica Acta, 1982
Abstract Ceria-zirconia tetragonal solid solutions were obtained by using gelled metallorganic precursors as starting materials. By drying these gels, intimately mixed powders of a quasi-amorphous nature were obtained. On firing, the tetragonal solid solution sintered directly without any separation of the single oxides.

Oxygen sensing with mesoporous ceria–zirconia solid solutions

Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, 2009
Abstract Mesoporous ceria and ceria–zirconia solid solutions are synthesized and tested as an oxygen sensor. Two structures were selected for this study i.e. KIT-6 and SBA-15. Solid solutions are prepared through making replicas of synthesized mesoporous silica where these templates were impregnated with precursor materials.

Solubility Limits of Ceria-Zirconia-Lanthana Solid-Solutions

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2017
Abstract We demonstrate, the solubility limits of Ceria-Zirconia-Lanthana (CZLa) solid-solutions with the increase in heat-treatment temperature from 600°C to 1300°C. CZLa nano-crystalline samples were successfully synthesized by EDTA-Citrate complex method and were characterized by Raman Spectroscopy (RS) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM ...

Microstructural investigation of ceria-zirconia solid solution with oxygen vacancies

Journal of Electron Microscopy, 2003
The microstructural change in CeO2-ZrO2 solid solution (Ce2Zr2O7 + x; 0 < or = x < or = 1) with an ordered arrangement of Ce and Zr associated with the absorption/release of oxygen was observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The oxidation of Ce2Zr2O7 was observed in TEM by electron diffraction analysis.

Flame synthesis of nanocrystalline ceria–zirconia: effect of carrier liquid

Chemical Communications, 2003
Spraying cerium and zirconium precursors dissolved in carboxylic acids into a methane-oxygen flame resulted in well-structured nanocrystals of ceria-zirconia mixed oxides with high temperature stability and surface area.

Synthesis of nanostructured ceria, zirconia and ceria–zirconia solid solutions using an ultrahigh surface area carbon material as a template

Nanotechnology, 2004
Nanostructured ceria, zirconia and ceria-zirconia solid solutions have been synthesized via an easy route and characterized by XRD, nitrogen physorption, Raman spectroscopy and TEM. The route involves two steps: the impregnation of ultrahigh surface area carbon materials with nitrate solutions of ceria and/or zirconia and burn-off to remove the carbon ...

Nanoscale Heterogeneity in Ceria Zirconia with Low-Temperature Redox Properties

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2006
We have investigated nanoscale compositional and structural variations in Ce(0.5)Zr(0.5)O(2) samples with different redox properties. Different samples were prepared using a spray freezing technique, and the synthesis conditions were varied to yield materials with reduction temperatures in the range of 400-750 degrees C.

Characterisation of ceria–zirconia solid solutions after hydrothermal ageing

Applied Catalysis A: General, 2001
Abstract Ce1−xZrxO2 (x=0–0.84) solid solutions prepared by co-precipitation were characterised after calcination at 700 or 900°C, and after hydrothermal ageing at 1000 or 1200°C. The solid solutions were formed at 700°C, and crystallise as cubic or tetragonal phases depending on their compositions. Despite the rather high surface areas obtained after

Interfacial Structure and Point Defects in Ceria/Zirconia Superlattices

MRS Proceedings, 2006
AbstractWe report the results of a molecular dynamics simulation study aiming to understand the interfacial structure in ceria/zirconia superlattices and the impact of the interfaces on the energies of oxygen vacancy formation and Gd ion substitution in ceria and zirconia layers of the superlattice structure.

Ru-doped ceria–zirconia mixed oxides catalyze soot combustion

Reaction Kinetics, Mechanisms and Catalysis, 2013
We used ceria-based catalysts to reduce the soot combustion temperature from 600 °C to values included in the operation range of diesel exhausts (270–400 °C). We synthesized CeO2–ZrO2 by the sol–gel method and effectively deposited the mixed oxide on cordierite.
