Cerium Nanophases from Cerium Ammonium Nitrate

Langmuir
Ceria nanomaterials with facile CeIII/IV redox behavior are used in sensing, catalytic, and therapeutic applications, where inclusion of CeIII has been correlated with reactivity. Understanding assembly pathways of CeO2 nanoparticles (NC-CeO2) in water has been challenged by "blind" synthesis, including rapid assembly/precipitation promoted by heat or ...

Introduction to Cerium and Cerium-based Materials

2023
The redox behavior of cerium is responsible for its high technological importance since ceria serves as a potential material in assorted applications. Changes in the optical, electrical, magnetic, and catalytic behavior of ceria can be brought about by employing different methodologies and reaction conditions.

Enthalpies of formation of cerium dioxide, cerium sesquicarbide, and cerium dicarbide

The Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics, 1971
The enthalpies of formation of cerium dioxide, cerium sesquicarbide, and cerium dicarbide have been determined by oxygen bomb calorimetry and found to be Δ H ° f (CeO 2 , 298.15 K) = −(260.6 ± 0.2) kcal mol −1 , Δ H ° f (CeC 1.5 , 298.15 K) = −(21.1 ± 0.7) kcal mol −1 , and Δ H ° f (CeC 2.0 , 298.15 K) = −(23.1 ± 1.3) kcal mol −1 .

Cerium cyclotrisilazides†

Australian Journal of Chemistry, 2022
The 6-membered 3,5-bis(dimethylsilyl)-2,2,4,4,6,6-hexamethyl-1,3,5,2,4,6-triazatrisilinan-1-ido ligand (dhts) was accessed in the potassium dimer [K(dhts)(thf)]2 (1thf), when treating KH with excess HN(SiHMe2)2 in the presence of THF. 1thf engaged in salt metathesis with CeCl3(thf)1.05 in THF, giving Ce(dhts)3(thf) (2thf).

Probing the cerium/cerium hydride interface using nanoindentation

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2015
Abstract A cerium hydride site was sectioned and the mechanical properties of the exposed phases (cerium metal, cerium hydride, oxidised cerium hydride) were measured using nanoindentation. An interfacial region under compressive stress was observed in the cerium metal surrounding a surface hydride that formed as a consequence of strain energy ...

Cerium and cerium intermetallics: 4f-band metals?

Physica B+C, 1985
Abstract The applicability of band theory to the description of the 4f electrons in Ce and its intermetallic compounds is considered. The convincing experimental and theoretical evidence that α-Ce is indeed a 4f-band metal, as first suggested by Gustafson and his collaborators, is reviewed, and the results of recent band calculations of the ground ...

Isotopic Analysis: Cerium-141 and Cerium-144

Nuclear Science and Engineering, 1958
Cerium-141 and cerium-144 are determined in the presence of each other by performing a suitable cerium chemical separation and then measuring the radiation from each nuclide. Cerium-144 is determined by counting the 3.0-Mev Pr/ sup 144/ beta ray: cerium-141 is determined by integrating beneath the 145-kev gammaray peak observed with a sodium iodide ...
