Assessment of different classification systems for predicting the risk of superior laryngeal nerve injury during thyroid surgery: a prospective cohort study [PDF]
BackgroundA multitude of anatomical variations have been noted in the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve (EBSLN). In this study, intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) was used to assess the potential value of the different classical EBSLN ...

Correlation between the cernea classification of external branch of superior laryngeal nerve in relation to the ultrasound-based volume of thyroid gland [PDF]
Introductíon: Goiter is a very common problem dealt with by surgeons. Surgical treatment of thyroid requires removal of a part (hemi) or whole of the gland (total thyroidectomy). The external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve (EBSLN) is an important

Utility of video-assisted method for identifying and preserving the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve during thyroidectomy [PDF]
BackgroundThe EBSLN is vulnerable to damage during thyroidectomy, results in voice related complications, negatively affect patient quality of life, routine identification of the EBSLN prior to surgical manipulation is necessary for a complication-free ...

Intraoperative neuromonitoring for preservation of the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve in transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy: initial experience from Vietnam [PDF]
ObjectivesTo evaluate the feasibility of intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) in identifying the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve (EBSLN), classifying its anatomical variations, and to evaluate short-term vocal function in patients ...

Is identification and dissection of the external laryngeal nerve necessary during thyroidectomy? A prospective study [PDF]
Background Compared to the recurrent laryngeal nerve, the EBSLN (or external laryngeal nerve) is less studied in terms of its course and relationship with the thyroid gland.

Proteomic and Metabolomic Analysis of the Neuroprotective Effects of <i>Lycium Ruthenicum</i> Polyphenols in Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy Mice. [PDF]
After 8 weeks of treatment, LRP showed multiple neuroprotective effects on nerve damage in the DPN model mice. The proteomics and metabolomics identified several possible mechanisms for their therapeutic effects: (1) improving mitochondrial function, especially improving the OXPHOS process; (2) increasing the abundance of cytoskeletal and structural ...

Not just the Big Five: African ecotourists prefer parks brimming with bird diversity
Using data on ecotourist visits to 164 parks, we find that ecotourist preferences extend beyond the ‘Big Five’ megafauna to include bird diversity. We also show that some species are more likely to benefit from ecotourism than others. Abstract Ecotourism helps sustain protected areas (PAs) that in turn conserve Africa's declining fauna.
