The Cervical Vertebral Bone Quality Score Is a Novel Reliable Index Reflecting the Condition of Paraspinal Muscles and Predicting Loss of Cervical Lordosis After Open‐Door Laminoplasty

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1406-1417, May 2025.
There is a close correlation between C‐VBQ scores and the cervical deep extensors, deep flexors, and overall paraspinal muscles relative cross‐sectional area (RCSA) and degree of fat infiltration (DFF). The C‐VBQ score is a comprehensive parameter reflecting the quality of cervical bone and paraspinal muscles.

A Meta‐Analysis of Cost‐Effectiveness in Cervical Degenerative Disc Disease Treated With Cervical Disc Arthroplasty Versus Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This meta‐analysis finds that anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) has a lower initial cost, while cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) demonstrates a lower risk of reoperation and DVT/PE. CDA's long‐term clinical benefits may offset its higher upfront expense.

Keyhole Foraminotomy Combined With Unilateral Laminotomy for Bilateral Decompression Under Biportal Endoscopic Spinal Surgery for the Treatment of Mixed‐Type Cervical Spondylosis

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Under biportal endoscopic spine surgery, one‐stage decompression combining keyhole foraminotomy and unilateral laminotomy for bilateral decompression (ULBD) for mixed‐type cervical spondylopathy can achieve favorable clinical outcomes with minimal compromise of spinal stability.

Outcomes of 87 small‐breed dogs surgically treated for Chiari‐like malformation and syringomyelia

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To report the outcomes of titanium mesh (TM) cranioplasty without polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), incorporating a deliberate gap between the foramen magnum decompression (FMD) surface and the TM, in small‐breed dogs with Chiari‐like malformation and syringomyelia (CM/SM). Study design Retrospective clinical study.
