Etoposide‐induced cancer cell death: roles of mitochondrial VDAC1 and calpain, and resistance mechanisms

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The complex mode of action of the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide in triggering apoptosis involves several mechanisms: overexpression of the mitochondrial protein VDAC1, leading to its oligomerization and formation of a large channel that mediates the release of pro‐apoptotic protein; and overexpression of the apoptosis regulators p53, Bax, and ...

Computer-aided Detection of Squamous Carcinoma of the Cervix in Whole Slide Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Goal: Squamous cell carcinoma of cervix is one of the most prevalent cancer worldwide in females. Traditionally, the most indispensable diagnosis of cervix squamous carcinoma is histopathological assessment which is achieved under microscope by pathologist.

Villoglandular papillary adenocarcinoma of the uterine cervix with lymph node metastasis - A case report and review of the literature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Villoglandular papillary adenocarcinoma was first described by Young and Scully in 1989 as a distinct entity with the histological features of exophytic growth proliferation, villous and papillary architecture and mild to moderate nuclear atypia.

Comparison of human uterine cervical electrical impedance measurements derived using two tetrapolar probes of different sizes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
BACKGROUND We sought to compare uterine cervical electrical impedance spectroscopy measurements employing two probes of different sizes, and to employ a finite element model to predict and compare the fraction of electrical current derived from ...

Respiratory complex I‐mediated NAD+ regeneration regulates cancer cell proliferation through the transcriptional and translational control of p21Cip1 expression by SIRT3 and SIRT7

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional

Marcadores ecográficos de corioamnionitis e infección fetal in utero: Revisión de la literatura Ultrasound markers for chorioamnionitis and in utero fetal infection: a literature review

StyleGAN2-based Out-of-Distribution Detection for Medical Imaging [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of Med-NeurIPS 2022, 2023
One barrier to the clinical deployment of deep learning-based models is the presence of images at runtime that lie far outside the training distribution of a given model. We aim to detect these out-of-distribution (OOD) images with a generative adversarial network (GAN).

Targeting PRAME directly or via EZH2 inhibition overcomes retinoid resistance and represents a novel therapy for keratinocyte carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The study evaluated the function and therapeutic implications of PRAME in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The findings demonstrate that PRAME impairs keratinocyte differentiation pathways. Furthermore, PRAME impairs anticancer response to retinoid compounds in BCC and SCC cells.
