Plutonium 239, Strontium 90, and Cesium 137
Archives of Environmental Health: An International Journal, 1971This is a report of the dynamic aspects of the selective accumulation of radioactive nucleides, such as plutonium 239, cesium 137, and strontium 90. The survey proceeding the Japanese atomic explosion has revealed considerable increase in the amount of fallout. The possible hazards and the need to evaluate the contamination are considered.

Cesium-137 Body Burdens in Florida Residents
Health Physics, 1969AbstractMeasurement of 137Cs body burdens in nearly 300 persons with the University of Florida whole-body counter from 1965 to date shows that Florida residents had levels of 137Cs two to three times as high as those reported elsewhere in the conterminous United States during the same time period ...

Cesium-137 levels detected in Georgia otters
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 1988Beginning in the 1940's and continuing through the 50's and early 60's, nuclear devices were tested by aerial detonation in the United States and other countries around the world. Cesium-137 (/sup 137/Cs) is one of the most important radionuclide by-products due to its abundance and slow decay (30-year half-life).

Decontamination of Potato Tubers Containing Cesium-137
Science, 1964Stirring for 16 hours at 26° to 35°C of peeled and sliced tubers in a solution consisting of 1.2 percent KCI and 0.16 percent NaCl and containing a cation-exchange resin in the mixed K + , Na + form effected Cs 137 removals exceeding 95 percent.

Reported first case of suicide with radioactive substance in Bulgaria. Male, aged 30, defectoscopist, with cyclothymic structure of character and psychotraumatic family environment made a second and successful attempt at suicide, this time by means of outer irradiation with cesium-137 with an activity of 5.3 curie in the course of two hours--irradiated

Attenuation of Scattered Cesium-137 Gamma Rays
Radiology, 1959The importance of having attenuation curves available of radiation scattered from objects in the useful beam, such as the walls of a radiation room or a patient, has already been pointed out (1). Each irradiated object becomes a source of secondary radiations which may be hazardous to personnel located in areas away from the direction of the useful ...

Distribution of Fallout Cesium-137 in Hawaii
Health Physics, 1984The concentration of 137Cs was determined by gamma spectrometry in soils and surface-deposited volcanic sublimates from various climatic locations on the islands of Hawaii, Oahu and Maui. A distinct pattern of higher concentrations on the wetter windward sides of the islands and a correlation between 137Cs concentration and amount of rainfall were ...

Cesium-137 in grass from Chernobyl fallout
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2005Grass ecosystem was monitored for 137Cs, a relatively long-lived radionuclide, for about 16 years since the Chernobyl reactor accident occurred on April 26, 1986. Cesium-137 in grass gramineae or poaceae the species, ranged from 122.9 Bq kg(-1) (September 4, 1986) to 5.8 mBq kg(-1) (October 16, 2001) that is a range of five orders of magnitude.

First Impressions of Therapy with Cesium 137
Radiology, 1957Early in 1955 a kilocurie cesium-137 teletherapy machine was installed in the Medical Division of the Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies. After much preliminary physical work involving radiation protection surveys and isodose plotting, the machine was made available for limited clinical trial.
