Concentration of Cesium-137 by Algae

Science, 1958
The adsorption-absorption of Cs/sup 137/ by algae is of interest because Cs/sup 137/ of the critical fission products in power reactor wastes and atomic weapon fall-out. It is well known that plankton takes up radioactivity in fairly high concentrations. The purpose of this investigation was to study the accumulation of Cs/sup 137/ by fresh water-algae.

Cesium-137 in Alaskan Eskimos

Science, 1963
During the summer of 1962, levels of radioactivity in over 700 people at four villages above the Arctic Circle in Alaska were measured with a transportable whole-body counter. The averages for body burden of cesium-137 were much higher than the average for people in the rest of the United States. The people of the interior village of Anaktuvuk Pass had

Cesium-137 in Montana Soils

Health Physics, 1989
Fallout 137Cs levels in soil were measured at 11 diverse sites throughout Montana. Concentrations in near-surface samples ranged from 20-200 mBq g-1 (0.51-5.41 pCi g-1). Most of the 137Cs was in the top 10 cm of soil. Deeper occurrences were attributed to disturbances by animals and to interstitial flow of small sediment particles within saturated ...

Erosional Behavior of Cesium-137

Health Physics, 1970
AbstractMovement of 137Cs by runoff, erosion, and infiltration on a silt-loam soil in Tennessee is reported. A summary of a 2-yr study is given, and a model for the nuclide erosional loss is suggested.
