To avoid or eliminate: cestode infections in copepods

open access: yesParasitology, 2002
The outcome of a parasite infection is the result of the interaction between the host and the parasite. In the system we studied, there are 3 critical stages for the outcome of infection of the (intermediate) host, the copepod Macrocyclops albidus, with the cestode Schistocephalus solidus.

DNA barcoding reveals different cestode helminth species in northern European marine and freshwater ringed seals

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife, 2021
Three subspecies of the ringed seal (Pusa hispida) are found in northeastern Europe: P. h. botnica in the Baltic Sea, P. h saimensis in Lake Saimaa in Finland, and P. h. ladogensis in Lake Ladoga in Russia.

Taeniid cestodes in a wolf pack living in a highly anthropic hilly agro-ecosystem

open access: yesParasite, 2021
The Italian wolf population in human-modified landscapes has increased greatly in the last few decades. Anthropisation increases the risk of transmission of many zoonotic infections and in this context, control of taeniid cestode species needs to be ...

Hydatid Cyst of Ovary: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2009
Echinococcus granulosus is considered the major cause of humanhydatid cysts. Usually the duration of cyst formation is 10-20 years. This period shortens significantly upon rupture of aprimary cyst.

Annotation of the transcriptome from Taenia pisiformis and its comparative analysis with three Taeniidae species.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BackgroundTaenia pisiformis is one of the most common intestinal tapeworms and can cause infections in canines. Adult T. pisiformis (canines as definitive hosts) and Cysticercus pisiformis (rabbits as intermediate hosts) cause significant health problems

A molecular survey of Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato in central-eastern Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Central-eastern Europe is an endemic region for cystic echinococcosis where multiple species of intermediate hosts are commonly infected with Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato tapeworms of major medical and veterinary importance.

Unsolved Mystery of Synchronous Metastatic Adenocarcinoma and Echinococcus Cystic Infection, a Major Break Through in Clinical Oncology: A Case Report

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2020
Echinococcus cystic infection is a zoonotic infection caused by the larval stage of cestode species belonging to the genus Echinococcus. Through the modulation of the immune system by this parasite, there is an established link of this infection with the

Mast Cell Response to Cestode Infection

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1963
SummaryMast cells have been found in the cyst wall of a larval cestode parasite (Hydatigena taeniaeformis). The mast cells were present in the outer 2 layers of the cyst wall. This indicates that the entire cyst wall is of host-inflammatory origin and not derived from parasite tissue nor solely from modified host-liver cells.
