Cardiofaciocutaneous (CFC) syndrome

Australasian Journal of Dermatology, 1999
An 11‐year‐old boy affected by mental retardation and seizures demonstrates congenital heart defect, many dysmorphic features and dry skin. His hair is sparse over the vertex with alopecia of the eyebrows and eyelashes. There are horny small papules evident in those areas. The diagnosis of cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome has been made.

Different pharmacokinetics of dichlorofluoromethane (CFC 21) and chlorodifluoromethane (CFC 22)

Archives of Toxicology, 1986
Inhalation pharmacokinetics of dichlorofluoromethane (CFC 21) and chlorodifluoromethane (CFC 22) were studied in male Wistar rats by use of a closed inhalation chamber system. CFC 21 was readily eliminated via metabolism. However, CFC 22 underwent no detectable metabolism; pretreatment of the rats with DDT or phenobarbital did not stimulate metabolic ...

The CFC-Ozone Issue: Progress on the Development of Alternatives to CFCs

Science, 1990
Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are now believed to be major contributors to the seasonal ozone depletion over the Antarctic continent. However, because they are so important to many aspects of modern society, it would be irresponsible to immediately cease their production. The identification of suitable substitutes is difficult when issues such as toxicity,

Degradation rates of CFC-11, CFC-12 and CFC-113 in anoxic shallow aquifers of Araihazar, Bangladesh

Journal of Contaminant Hydrology, 2008
Chlorofluorocarbons CFC-11 (CCl(3)F), CFC-12 (CCl(2)F(2)), and CFC-113 (CCl(2)F-CClF(2)) are used in hydrology as transient tracers under the assumption of conservative behavior in the unsaturated and saturated soil zones. However, laboratory and field studies have shown that these compounds are not stable under anaerobic conditions.

The wall of the chick embryo aorta harbours M-CFC, G-CFC, GM-CFC and BFU-E

Development, 1988
Abstract In the 3-to 4-day avian embryo, after the first wave of haemopoiesis which derives in the yolk sac from haemopoietic stem cells formed in situ, haemopoietic cells emerge in an intraembryonic site, the wall of the aorta. In this paper, we demonstrate that this site harbours M-CFC, G-CFC, GM-CFC and late and early BFU-E.

CFCs

The Chemical Educator, 2005
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the introduction of dichlorofluoromethane, the first of the CFCs to be used commercially as a refrigerant, this article reviews its discovery by Thomas Midgley, Jr. (1889–1944) and later developments necessitated by the deleterious effect of “Freons” on the ozone layer.

On the multiplicativity of CFC-spaces

Mathematical Notes, 2013
We assume that all spaces are Hausdorff. By a mapping we mean a continuous surjective mapping. Recall that a space \(X\) is \(H\)-closed if it is closed in every space it is embedded in. A mapping \(f:X\rightarrow Y\) is said to be a \(C_{\tau}\)-mapping if the complete preimage of every point is a compact subset and whose cardinality is less than ...

CFCs and TRIBOLOGY

Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 1989
Chlorofluorocarbons, better known as CFCs, were developed more than 50 years ago as safe alternatives to the unpleasant sulphur dioxode and ammonia then in use in refrigerator compressors.

After CFCs

Circuit World, 1991
The options for eliminating CFC-113 as a solvent for cleaning flux residues from soldered circuit assemblies, or minimising the need to clean, are now clear: diluted CFC solvent blends, new HCFC solvents, alcohols, water plus saponifier, water with water-soluble flux, semi-aqueous solvents, ‘no-clean’ fluxes and controlled atmosphere soldering.

CFCs in transition

International Journal of Refrigeration, 1988
An overview is presented of the evolution of CFCs from their beginnings to the present day. Brief coverage is included of the impact of the Montreal Protocol on the future availability of CFCs. This is followed by some comparative data on potential alternativesvis-a-vis present CFCs.
