A Porous Interfacial Photothermal Layer of Fused Core–Shell Carbon‐Polymer Nanospheres for Directional Salt Crystallization and Zero‐Liquid‐Discharge

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical hydrogel evaporator with a thin, porous photothermal layer of fused core–shell carbon‐polymer nanospheres enables ultrafast interfacial solar evaporation with minimized heat loss and sufficient water supply. Directional advection‐dominated brine transport, coupled with Marangoni‐driven interfacial flow, drives salt away from the active ...

OpenHFDIB-DEM: An extension to OpenFOAM for CFD-DEM simulations with arbitrary particle shapes

open access: yesSoftwareX
Fluid flows containing dispersed particles are abundant in both nature and industry. Simulating such flows, especially with high volumetric fractions of the dispersed solid phase, is challenging due to the complexity of solid–fluid and solid–solid ...

CFD analysis of industrial multi-staged stirred vessels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper presents tools for analysis of CFD results adapted for flows in multi-stage stirred vessels through out two industrial cases. Those tanks fitted with double-flow impellers are used first to cool down highly viscous resins and subsequently for ...

Additive Manufacturing of Patient‐Specific Intracranial Aneurysm Cell Culture Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific intracranial aneurysm models were fabricated using chocolate moulding, 3D printed water‐soluble cores, and direct resin 3D printing. Moulding PDMS around sacrificial cores made of chocolate or 3D printed water‐soluble resin yielded accurate, expandable, and endothelializable models that outperformed resin‐based approaches.

Nonlocomotory Robotic Strategies for Dynamic Rotation Control in Terrestrial Robots: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Terrestrial robots increasingly require rapid body rotation to maintain stability and agility in complex environments. This review shows nonlocomotory rotational control strategies that operate without ground contact, including reaction wheels, tails, bars, limbs, and thrusters.

A New Approach for Modeling of Fluidized Bed by CFD-DEM

open access: yes, 2011
Numerical studies of 3D cylindrical fluidized bed by means of combined computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element method (DEM) were carried out. For motions of particles, Newton's second law and 3D compressible Navier-Stokes equations in generalized curvilinear coordinates in its conservative form were used.

Optimization of Magnetic Milli‐Spinner for Robotic Endovascular Intervention

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents the design optimization of a multifunctional magnetic milli‐spinner for high‐speed propulsion and efficient clot debulking. The optimized design achieves an ultrafast swimming velocity of 55 cm/s (≈175 body lengths/s) in saline water, enabling stable upstream swimming against strong physiological flows and establishing magnetic milli‐

Fast DEM Modelling Approach for Internal Erosion of Barrier Dam Granular Materials Based on Acceleration Field

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2020
The barrier dams are loose accumulation bodies formed by collapse, landslide, debris flow or moraine, and most of them are composed of loosely and widely graded cohesionless soil.

CFD–DEM Coupling Numerical Simulation of the Seyu Landslide–Surge Disaster Chain in Houziyan Reservoir

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2023
Landslide surge is a common geological disaster phenomenon. Due to the complex fluid-solid interaction between landslides and water, the traditional single-medium model cannot be solved accurately.
