A Numerical Study on the Motion of Snow Aggregates Freely Falling in Air

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract This paper reports the results of the first quantitative study on the flow fields of freely falling snow aggregates. The motions are investigated by performing numerical simulations of four snow aggregate models consisting of 2, 3, 4, and 5 conformally shaped dendrites of different sizes.

A Sequential Quadratic Numerical Optimization Technique to Compute Critical Flutter Speeds

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 127, Issue 17, 15 September 2026.
ABSTRACT A stable sequential quadratic numerical optimization technique is proposed to compute critical flutter speeds without resorting to complex algebra. The solution of the traditional eigenproblem stated in the frequency domain, and whose complex conjugate eigenvalues provide insights on the stability of the dynamic aeroelastic response, is ...

3D Hydrodynamic Flow Lithography

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 74, 14 September 2026.
ABSTRACT Continuous‐ and stop‐flow lithography are widely used to fabricate multi‐dimensional microstructures whose cross‐sectional morphology is dictated by the flow profile of multiple co‐flowing streams. Here, we introduce three‐dimensional hydrodynamic flow lithography (3D HFL), a platform for programmable generation of multi‐layered flow profiles ...

Bridging Theory and Practice: Digital Twin Simulation of a Heat Exchanger in Laboratories for Engineering Students

open access: yesComputer Applications in Engineering Education, Volume 34, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Digital twins serve as virtual replicas of physical systems. They can be used as a tool for engineering education by revealing the underlying principles behind unit operations. The project aimed to integrate digital twins into university engineering lab courses, complementing traditional methods by bridging the gap between experimentation and ...
