A Novel 3D‐Printed Microfluidic Bioreactor With Electrospun Scaffold Integration as a Platform for Cardiovascular Tissue Engineering

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of global mortality. Treatment methods such as bypass graft operations, while often successful, can fail in cases of systemic disease or compliance mismatch. Tissue engineered vascular grafts may offer a potential solution, by means of an implantable cell‐seeded scaffold that can integrate ...

A semi‐implicit finite volume scheme for a simplified hydrostatic model for fluid‐structure interaction

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Volume 95, Issue 1, Page 107-142, January 2023., 2023
In this article, a novel mass and momentum conservative semi‐implicit finite volume scheme is developed for the coupled solution of hydrostatic shallow water flow and the movement of one or more floating rigid bodies. The coupling is achieved via a nonlinear volume function in the mass conservation equation that depends on the coordinates of the ...

New variants of fuzzy optimal control problems

open access: yesAsian Journal of Control, EarlyView.
Abstract This study introduces a groundbreaking approach to optimal control problems by incorporating fuzzy conformable derivatives. Our primary goal is to identify the optimal control strategy that maximizes fuzzy performance indices while adhering to fuzzy conformable dynamical systems.

Construction of hybrid 1D‐0D networks for efficient and accurate blood flow simulations

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Volume 95, Issue 2, Page 262-312, February 2023., 2023
A set of coupling equations to appropriately couple nonlinear 1D and lumped‐parameter (0D) models for blood flow in compliant vessels is defined. Then, a methodology for the high‐order numerical coupling between 1D and 0D vessels through hybrid junctions is proposed.

Occurrence and distribution of the exotic lizard Hemidactylus mabouia Moreau de Jonnès, 1818 in Ilha Grande, RJ, Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
The gekkonid lizard Hemidactylus mabouia is an exotic species in Brazil and is found in different ecosystems. This species was recorded at Ilha Grande, RJ, one of the largest insular remains of the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil.

Image2Flow: A hybrid image and graph convolutional neural network for rapid patient-specific pulmonary artery segmentation and CFD flow field calculation from 3D cardiac MRI data [PDF]

open access: yes
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can be used for evaluation of hemodynamics. However, its routine use is limited by labor-intensive manual segmentation, CFD mesh creation, and time-consuming simulation. This study aims to train a deep learning model to both generate patient-specific volume-meshes of the pulmonary artery from 3D cardiac MRI data and ...

Technical lignin‐derived liquid polyols for flexible polyurethane foam in automotive seating

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract In this study, three different technical lignins from different biomass sources (softwood, hardwood, and wheat straw) and isolation processes (kraft, hydrolysis, and organosolv) were used to synthesize liquid lignin polyols by oxyalkylating lignin with propylene carbonate, a safe and environmentally friendly solvent.

A deforming‐mesh finite‐element approach applied to the large‐translation and free‐surface scenario of fused deposition modeling

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Volume 95, Issue 2, Page 334-351, February 2023., 2023
A boundary‐conforming free‐surface finite element method applied to fused deposition modeling (FDM) is presented. Using a boundary‐conforming approach shows to have several advantages in an FDM simulation. In particular, boundary conditions, like heat fluxes or free‐surface, can be directly imposed on the boundary.
