CFD simulation of mixing in anaerobic digesters
Bioresource Technology, 2009A three-dimensional CFD model incorporating the rheological properties of sludge was developed and applied to quantify mixing in a full-scale anaerobic digester. The results of the model were found to be in good agreement with experimental tracer response curve.

CFD Numerical Simulation of Exhaust Muffler
2011 Seventh International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Security, 2011Based on the physical numerical modeling of the flow field of the muffler in this paper, the author simulated the field by numerical method with Fluent and analyzed the effect which the internal flow field has on the performance of the muffler, which may be a credible guidance of the muffler structural design.

CFD simulation of the PACK-860X
International Journal of Modern Physics C, 2023This study recommends a novel structured packing (SP) PACK-860X with a specific surface area of 860[Formula: see text]m2/m3, which is defined utilizing a numerical method. We attempt to investigate the main properties of PACK-860X for illustration, height equal to a theoretical plate (HETP), dry pressure drop (DPD) and wet pressure drop (WPD).

CFD Simulations of a Meshing Gear Pair
Volume 5A: Heat Transfer, 2016Gearboxes are efficient systems for torque transmission, with an overall efficiency over 99 % if well designed. Nevertheless its use in high power applications lead to significant energy loss. Further improvement of efficiency can be reached analyzing in more detail the different sources of power losses within the transmission system.

Using multigrid methods in CFD simulations
2016 International Conference on High Performance Computing & Simulation (HPCS), 2016This paper studies two typical ways to use multigrid methods in CFD simulations. One is implementing multigrid methods in CFD softwares start from scratch, and the other is calling multigrid methods from existing libraries. The experimental results on two benchmark cases, the lid-driven cavity flow and the flow around a cylinder, show that the solving ...

CFD Simulations of Sieve Tray Hydrodynamics
Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 1999A Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model is developed for describing the hydrodynamics of sieve trays. The gas and liquid phases are modelled in the Eulerian framework as two interpenetrating phases. The interphase momentum exchange (drag) coefficient is estimated using the Bennett et al. correlation as a basis.

In this chapter, based on the rigorous theory of fluid flow through porous media and the computational fluid dynamic technique, different numerical approaches for description of air and resin flow in fibrous media will be presented. In the analyses, both fibrous media and fluids (resin and air) are considered to be incompressible.

A compact wall model for CFD simulations
2017 16th IEEE Intersociety Conference on Thermal and Thermomechanical Phenomena in Electronic Systems (ITherm), 2017It is often necessary to model both internal and external walls in CFD simulations, especially at the room level. Actual walls are generally composed of multiple (thin) layers and may be exposed to solar irradiance. Modeling the wall construction explicitly can be tedious (because of complexities at wall intersections) and also problematic, as the ...

Simulation of VCEs by CFD modelling: an analysis of sensitivity
Journal of Loss Prevention in the Process Industries, 1998The AutoReaGas code developed by TNO and Century Dynamics Ltd has been utilized to simulate the occurrence of a Vapour Cloud Explosion in a large fuel storage area. The sensitivity of the results to the main input variables has been investigated, together with the effect of fuel amount and fuel concentration inside the cloud.
