IDENTIFICATION OF PHYTOPLANKTON TYPES IN TAMBAK BANDENG WITH HIGH QUALITY OF OMEGA-3

open access: yesJFMR-Journal of Fisheries and Marine Research, 2019
Microalgae as a source of nutrients, can be a good alternative to the use of high-level organisms. The abundant omega 3 content in plankton, especially phytoplankton, needs to be conducted research on the identification of the types of phytoplankton in ...

First Strike: Description of the Events at the First Salmon Farm Affected by the 2025 Algal Bloom in Northern Norway

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Harmful algal blooms (HABs) are a threat to fish welfare, occurring suddenly and unexpectedly causing significant consequences for fish and salmon farmers worldwide. Norwegian farmers have been facing this challenge at irregular intervals since the very beginning of the industry. This report describes the events on the first fish farm affected

EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF AUXINS ON GROWTH AND BIOCHEMICAL PARAMETERS OF CHAETOCEROS MUELLERI

open access: yesSiberian Journal of Life Sciences and Agriculture
Background. The study of microalgae cultivation process is not only related to obtaining a wide range of biologically active substances. With the development of mariculture, some species of microalgae (including Chaetoceros muelleri) are of interest as ...

Cold comfort for change: Stream mats as biological indicators of ecosystem processes in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract Glacier‐fed streams (GFSs) make ideal systems for studying climate‐related changes. Some of the best‐studied GFSs are found in the McMurdo Dry Valleys (MDVs) of Antarctica, one of the Earth's coldest and driest deserts. Despite their harsh and isolated nature, MDV GFSs represent an oasis of life in a landscape visually devoid of it, with ...

Effect of Cadmium on the population growth of the marine diatom Chaetoceros gracilis Schutt

open access: yesRevista Peruana de Biología, 2014
Phytoplankton constitutes the base of the trophic webs in the marine environment, so it is important to know the possible effects of pollutants on the algal populations.

Sulfated Polysaccharides from Chaetoceros muelleri: Macromolecular Characteristics and Bioactive Properties

open access: yesBiology, 2022
In the present study, a culture of Chaetoceros muelleri, a cosmopolitan planktonic diatom microalga present in the Sea of Cortez, was established under controlled laboratory conditions. A sulfated polysaccharide (CMSP) extraction was carried out from the biomass obtained, resulting in a yield of 2.2% (w/w of dry biomass).

Role of extracellular carbonic anhydrase in the polar diatom Fragilariopsis cylindrus

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Diatoms are major primary producers in productive polar oceans, where cold temperatures and high CO2 solubility raise questions as to whether they rely on the CO2‐concentrating mechanism (CCM) to saturate photosynthesis. Knowledge of CCM function will help better predict the sensitivity of diatom primary production to warming and acidifying ...

Metacaspases contribute to the cellular response to heat stress in a marine diatom

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Climate‐driven marine heatwaves (HW) are extreme, large‐scale events characterized by elevated ocean temperatures lasting from days to months. Despite their importance, little is known about the molecular mechanisms of algal response to marine HW. Recent studies suggest that metacaspases play an important role in thermotolerance.

Holocene neoglacial events in the Bransfield Strait (Antarctica). Palaeocenographic and paleoclimatic significance

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2006
Geochemical analysis, micropalaeontological analysis and radiometric dating techniques were performed on four gravity cores, G-1, G-2, A-3 and A-6, recovered during the BIO Hesperides expeditions GEBRA-93 and FRUELA-96 from the Bransfield Strait
