Systematics of Chaetocerotaceae (Bacillariophyceae). I. A phylogenetic analysis of the family
Phycological Research, 2003SUMMARY In order to construct a model of evolutionary relationships within the diatom family Chaetocerotaceae, 37 species of Chaetoceros Ehrenberg, representing all subgenera and 21 of 22 subgeneric sections of the genus, plus three Bacteriastrum Shadbolt species, representing both of its subgeneric sections, were subjected to cladistic analysis ...

New species of Bacteriastrum (Chaetocerotaceae, Bacillariophyta) in the Adriatic Sea?
2009This study reports on ecology and description of Bacteriastrum sp. (Chaetocerotaceae, Bacillariophyta) which dominated phytoplankton assemblages in the survey done in the coastal eastern Adriatic Sea. The investigated area is the 40 km long and 4-14 km wide system of Pag and Velebit Channel extending parallel to the coast. The inner part of the Velebit

Chaetoceros Ehrenberg is one of the most diverse genera of planktonic diatoms. The species in section Chaetoceros are characterized by cells and setae having numerous chloroplasts and being widely distributed. However, the delimitations of some species are problematic because of limited morphological information in the classical descriptions ...

The cosmopolitan diatom family Chaetocerotaceae abounds in the phytoplankton of coastal regions, comprising ca. 170 species, belonging to two genera, Chaetoceros and Bacteriastrum. In the Adriatic Sea the group is ecologically important represented with ca. 50 species whose identification is often problematic.
