Two new Japanese species of Gastrotricha (Chaetonotida, Chaetonotidae, Lepidodermella and Dichaeturidae, Dichaetura), with Comments on the Diversity of Gastrotrichs in Rice Paddies.

open access: closedZootaxa, 2013
Two new species of freshwater gastrotrichs are described from rice paddies in Otsu, Shiga, Japan. Lepidodermella acantholepida n. sp. is a medium sized species attaining a length of 145 microum, scales are flattened ovals and similar to those of L ...

A new species of Aspidiophorus (Gastrotricha: Chaetonotidae) from the Swedish west coast

open access: closedZootaxa, 2017
Gastrotricha is a group of small aquatic acoelomate animals with more than 820 species worldwide (Balsamo et al . 2015). The Swedish gastrotrich fauna today comprises 94 nominal species of which 40 are marine and 54 are freshwater (Curini-Galletti et al .

New records, neotype designation and DNA sequences of three species of Chaetonotus (Gastrotricha: Chaetonotidae) from Brazil.

open access: closedZootaxa, 2022
Gastrotrichs are aquatic microinvertebrates (less than 1 mm long) commonly found in freshwater and marine environments worldwide. The taxonomy of gastrotrichs is mainly based on external morphological characters, such as body shape and size of the ...

A new genus and new species of freshwater Chaetonotidae (Gastrotricha: Chaetonotida) from Brazil with phylogenetic position inferred from nuclear and mitochondrial DNA sequences

open access: closedSystematics and Biodiversity, 2017
Most studies of South American freshwater Gastrotricha have focused on the inland waters of Brazil including Sao Paulo State, Mato Grosso do Sul State, and Para State. In this paper, we describe a new genus and species, Cephalionotus kisielewskii gen. et. sp. nov.

Description of Lepidochaetus tirjakovae sp. nov. (Gastrotricha: Paucitubulatina: Chaetonotidae), using morphology and DNA barcoding

open access: closedZoologischer Anzeiger, 2021
Abstract Lepidochaetus is a phylogenetically interesting genus, as it represents one of the deepest branching lineages within the highly diverse family Chaetonotidae. Its taxonomy is, however, very complex due to multiple insufficient morphological descriptions, proposed synonymizations, and availability of molecular data for only two species. In the

A Heterolepidoderma and Halichaetoderma gen. nov. (Gastrotricha: Chaetonotidae) riddle: integrative taxonomy and phylogeny of six new freshwater species from Central Europe

open access: closedZoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2023
Heterolepidoderma is a widely distributed gastrotrich genus encompassing 22 freshwater and 15 marine species. In the present study, two new Heterolepidoderma and four new Heterolepidoderma-like species were discovered in the inland waters of Central ...

Two new species of Chaetonotus (Gastrotricha, Chaetonotida, Chaetonotidae) from Japan TAKAHITO G. SUZUKI & HIDETAKA FURUYA (Japan)

open access: closedZootaxa, 2011
Two new species of freshwater gastrotrichs are described from a pond in Osaka, Japan. Chaetonotus retiformis n. sp. is a medium size species attaining a length of 180 μm, characterized by a three-lobed head with a single tuft of sensory cilia on each side and small scales with four long spines on the base of each member of the furca.
