Sweet or salty? The origin of freshwater gastrotrichs (Gastrotricha, Chaetonotida) revealed by molecular phylogenetic analysis

open access: yesCladistics, 2020
Chaetonotidae is the most diverse and widely distributed family of the order Chaetonotida (Gastrotricha) and includes both marine and freshwater species.

New species and new records of freshwater Chaetonotida (Gastrotricha) from Sweden [PDF]

open access: yesZootaxa, 2011
Gastrotricha is a small phylum of acoelomatic aquatic invertebrates common in both marine and freshwater environments. The freshwater gastrotrich fauna of Sweden is poorly known and so far only 20 species have been reported.

Reproductive organs and spermatogenesis of the peculiar spermatozoa of the genus Kryptodasys (Gastrotricha, Macrodasyida), with an appraisal of the occurrence and origin of the tail‐less spermatozoa in Gastrotricha

open access: yesJournal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research, Volume 59, Issue 8, Page 1673-1688, November 2021., 2021
Aflagellate spermatozoa in two species of Kryptodasys are reported. Their ultrastructure shows common features, which appear peculiar to the genus and different from those of male gametes of Dolichodasys, the only other macrodasyidan genus known to have aflagellate sperm.

Neogosseidae (Gastrotricha, Chaetonotida) from the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. [PDF]

open access: yesZookeys, 2013
Among the mostly benthic gastrotrichs, the Neogosseidae (Gastrotricha, Chaetonotida) are particularly interesting from an evolutionary point of view in virtue of their planktonic lifestyle; yet, they are poorly known and uncertainties concerning morphological traits hamper accurate in-group systematics.

Seasonal turnover in community composition of stream‐associated macroinvertebrates inferred from freshwater environmental DNA metabarcoding

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 3, Issue 4, Page 861-876, July 2021., 2021
Macroinvertebrate communities are crucial for biodiversity monitoring and assessment of ecological status in stream ecosystems. Here, we use environmental DNA metabarcoding of filtered water samples collected in both spring and autumn from five streams in Denmark to address seasonal turnover in community composition of stream macroinvertebrates.
