Structure and Function of the J Chain
1975Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the role of the J chain in determining the initiation of synthesis, the assembly, and the biologic properties of polymer immunoglobulins (Ig). It is particularly important, because the J chain, via its essential role in IgM polymerization, appears to be a critical factor in the initiation of the immune ...

Primary structure of the A chain of porcine relaxin
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1976The sequence of the B-chain of relaxin, and ovarian peptide hormone isolated from ovaries of pregnant sows, has been shown to have the following primary structure: PCA-Ser-Thr-Asn-Asp-Phe-Ile-Lys-Ala-Cys-Gly-Arg-Glu-Leu-Val-Arg-Leu-Trp-Val-Glu-Ile-Cys-Gly-Val-Trp-Ser (2820 daltons).

Ownership Structure in Agrifood Chains: The Marketing Cooperative
American Journal of Agricultural Economics, 2002AbstractGlobalization, technological developments, and consumer concerns press farmers and food producers to enhance product innovation and to seek more efficient production and distribution structures. These changes in agrifood markets shift the relative importance of the investments by different chain partners. It may therefore be necessary to change

Structure of Confined Films of Chain Alcohols
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2000The structure of thin films of simple chain alcohols (1-octanol and 1-undecanol) confined between two atomically smooth mica surfaces has been investigated using a surface forces apparatus. Contact angle measurements and optical sum frequency generation were used for additional characterization. In both systems, the substrate-molecule interaction leads

Chained study and the discovery of relational structure
Memory & Cognition, 2021Prior knowledge of relational structure allows people to quickly make sense of and respond to new experiences. When awareness of such structure is not necessary to support learning, however, it is unclear when and why individuals "spontaneously discover" an underlying relational schema.

The Structure of Causal Chains
Sociological Theory, 2018Sociologists are increasingly attentive to the mechanisms responsible for cause-and-effect relationships in the social world. But an aspect of mechanistic causality has not been sufficiently considered. It is well recognized that most phenomena of interest to social science result from multiple mechanisms operating in sequence.

Structure and conformation of the cortisone side chain
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1969The results of a recent crystal structure analysis of the 4-chloro-derivative of cortisone have been used to describe the exact conformation of the C-17 side chain in this molecule. The results of this analysis are compared with those obtained from molecular orbital calculations, and from optical rotatory dispersion, circular dichroism, infrared and ...

On the Primary Structure of the A Chains
Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1975During plasma digestion of fibrinogen a degradation product with molecular weight (MW) of about 50,000 appear very early in the digest. As revealed by sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) gel electrophoresis this product has its origin in the A chain. Upon further hydrolysis the 50,000 MW fragment is degraded to a 25,000 MW fragment.

Chain structure and entanglement
Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, 1989AbstractIt is shown that the entanglement junction may be modeled as a binary hooking contact of Kuhn nodes between two chains. The entanglement behavior is thus determined by chain tortuosity and given by Nv = (1/β)C, where Nv is the number of real or virtual skeletal bonds in an entanglement strand, C∞ is the characteristic ratio, α = 2 is the number
